Topic: Wii U on ABC's Resurrection?

Just now on Resurrection (the same show that just had Donkey Kong on a smart phone on last week's episode), a few characters were shown playing New Super Luigi U.

They were shown using Wii remotes, instead of a Gamepad, but I'm sure the game was NSLU rather than NSMBW.

Whatever the case, Nintendo references in two consecutive episodes shows someone on the show's staff has a soft spot for the big N.

Why would they show DK on a smartphone? Surely Nintendo didn't endorse that, otherwise it would have been shown on a Nintendo console. Also, how do you know it was NSLU? I haven't seen the show so I don't know.

The gameplay clip they showed on the TV was definitely from one of the HD NSMB games (having played NSMBW, I know it wasn't from that).

I guess it could have been from NSMBU, but they were playing as Luigi, which is why I assumed NSLU. Either way, it was one of the Wii U games, which was the main point.

The best method to determine which game they were playing:

In NSMBU, someone must be playing as Mario.

If there's no Mario, it's NSLU.

Pretty sure you can pick Luigi in games other than Luigi U even in single player. I know you can in the original New SMB, I assume you can in the others. Either way I don't think it matters too much.

Plus from my limited knowledge of this show of course they would do Mario in it. Nintendo is basically the only thing that was around before the kid disappeared right? Giving the kid a PS/MS controller and game wouldn't work. I'd assume. I don't know, haven't actually watched the show and I have no interest in doing so.

In NSMBW and NSMBU, player 1 is always Mario. In single player, you are forced to be Mario.

In NSLU, player one is always Luigi, and in single player, you are forced to be Luigi, unless you use the button combination to play as Nabbit.

Based upon what you've been saying, it was definitely NSLU they were playing, since Luigi was the only character on screen.

@Skywake, true, but they could have just used Pac-Man as well. That, and they simply could have had one reference altogether if they really wanted to (or none at all), yet they've had one in each of the two episodes shown thus far).

Not that it really matters when it comes down to it, but I just think it's kind of neat when Nintendo gets a nod in more modern media

Hehe, I noticed this too. Last week could have been brushed off but a Wii U reference this week tells me there might be a fanboy on staff. NoA should totally put some MK8 ads in that time slot.

Another interesting tidbit that I've noticed on ABC's Sunday lineup is that Once Upon a Time's Henry appears to be a Sony fanboy. Last week he appeared to playing what could either be a PS or Xbox but this week, he was playing a handheld which clearly wasn't a DS so by process of elimination I reckon both consoles he was playing were PS. Considering Once a Upon Time comes on right before Resurrection, it's pretty funny to think about.

I don't watch Revenge but now I'm curious if there are any Xbox references there since it comes on after Resurrection. lol
