I'm not really into Guild Wars and such. I think the Wii U could have a good MMO. You could use your left hand to utilize the left analog stick and L/LZ buttons, then use your right hand for touch controls.

Wii U is not powerful enough to ever have a decent MMO on it's console....

Funcom seems to think it would work nicely...

Wii U could be first console to run a MMORPG without compromise - Funcom
Touchscreen could be a winner says MMORPG expert

Wii U could be the new home for massively multiplayer role-playing games. That's the word from Funcom developer Joel Bylos who told Official Nintendo Magazine that he's excited about the possibilities of the touchscreen controller.

As a lead content designer at Funcom - a studio specialising in MMO games such as Anarchy Online, Age Of Conan and the forthcoming Secret World - Bylos knows a thing or two about MMORPGs.

"Wii U could be the first real console on which running an MMORPG without compromise is plausible," said Bylos. "The controller is perfect for lining up those rows of hotbars that are essential in most MMOs. A customisable touchscreen interface combined with the 3D spatial movement of a console controller could be a winner."

I wonder if Ubisoft is still thinking about putting one on the Wii U?

Or Lucas Arts? Old news I know, still interesting.

The Wii U is a good console and the controls for a MMORPG would be nice.

But it's just that the Wii U would not be able to handle the stress of it all. The specs of the Wii U is relatable to the 360 and the PS3 a and they both could not run a MMO well.

Edit: they would run them but it would be small or laggy.

Also the fact that the MMO's that where also for the PC would not sell well. The MMO fan-base are just all about the power of computers.

Yeah i'm wondering where he got that from. Dragon Quest X reviewed pretty well, and the version 2 update is looking to really optimize it even more.

Relatable doesn't mean they have the same specs. As far as RAM and chipset capabilities are, the Wii U beats every 7th gen system, as it should be.

The architecture is similar to Xbox 360, but then they used chips from 2010(one generation more powerful) enhanced with eDRAM. In terms of specs, Wii U can be categorized as 8th gen, no sweat.

That's not to say it's just as powerful as Xbox One or PS4 on the same standards, but it is better specs wise than any home console, prior.

From what I can interpret, Wii U is basically an Xbox 360 2.0 anywhere from the RAM to the chipsets.

@SCAR392.

It's just that people would want more then that and they won't buy it if they have a computer.

Let's say you have a nice CPU and you like this MMO that is also coming out for the Wii U. If you didn't have any friends that have a lower end CPU that can't run it would you really get the one for the Wii U and play it often?

I don't see what you're saying. This sentence: "If you didn't have any friends that have a lower end CPU that can't run it would you really get the one for the Wii U and play it often?", doesn't really make sense the way you worded it.

It's the fanbase, MMO players play MMO's on the computer.

@DawnOverLily
Well, there are alot more people that prefer home consoles over PC as far as I can tell. The specs don't matter if it's a fanbase thing. There are cross-platform games, though. I know a couple games that will be on iOS and Android will be playable with the Wii U, online, like that chess game and such.

If you have a Wii U and your pals have a PC, I don't see what the problem is as long as you're all playing the game together with each of your preferences. That's why someone would get the Wii U version, but that's not to say that cross-playing a game would be fair or available.

A game like CoD where the Wii U version has more controller options would never be considered fair. When you go on PC, you acknowledge that there might be someone with a controller vs. a keyboard. I would never buy a console just cause my friends have it. I can tell you that much.

If an MMO came out on Wii U and PC, I'd buy it on Wii U. I prefer a controller over a keyboard, and that's not to say that a keyboard wouldn't be compatible with the Wii U. I have a Wii keboard right here. I also prefer surround sound when I play video games. The setups between PC and home console are different, but that doesn't mean that one or the other shouldn't get the game.

This whole thing is subjective, here, so I don't really know what you expected as a reply.

well true but that isn't stopping Sony

also from what I've heard from a good number of places is that Wii U is the only one hardcore PC gamers aren't burying because it has focus on exclusives instead of specs that PC gaming can always beat, so there is that. I've been thinking for quite some time considering how the average Wii U owner didn't get their system to play COD or Assassin's Creed that they should focus on getting games PC gamers specifically care about instead, and I think some clever use of timed exclusive content would help (as I've also heard late PC ports have caused PC gamers to get the console version of popular titles, even if they get the PC version later).

Addressing the Specs issue...
Many MMOs aren't the most spec heavy games so they can keep a consistent framerate and reduce lag. Better looking MMOs have smaller worlds and significantly better optimization. The Wii U could definitely handle most MMOs ranging from PS2 era quality to Defiance quality.

Addressing the Quickmapping and Movement...
The GamePad could be where all of your skills and whatnot are mapped. Some games could use it as a simple console controller and have the touchscreen use a few quick map icons. In more extreme cases, the Wiimote could be used for movement and clicking whereas the entire gamepad is used as a quickmap hub. Each physical button could be assigned to the spells or items used most often and the touch screen would have the rest. Maybe include drawing features for even quicker access (draw a circle for fire, checkmark to heal, etc.)

Zelda RPG Issue...?
No. Zelda is an action adventure game. There are RPG elements in some games, but overall the series isn't an RPG.

And that's my input.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I may be misreading your sarcasm bit, but Diablo 3 isn't an MMO. It's a Multiplayer Action RPG (difference: MMO = 100+ players Diablo 3 = 4 players)

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Didn't want to use FFXlV: A Realm Reborn. Since he didn't count DQX as a MMO.
