Simply put the Wii U needs an MMORPG such as Guild Wars 2, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy Realms Reborn. I am 100% convinced that the Wii U is the only current gen console that can handle a MMORPG correctly because of the Gamepad. I think that whichever soul in this world figures it out and makes it happen is going to be one wealthy being. So getting down to it, what do you think would make a great Wii U MMORPG? I personally think Guild Wars 2 would be great because of the way they build puzzles into the landscapes. If your a fan of Zelda this would be right up your alley. Pokémon . . . eh not so much for me.

MMOs in general are kinda...boring for me, so...yeah, Wii U doesn't NEED them.

Guild Wars 2 on the gamepad would be awful. Not nearly enough buttons to play the game correctly. Especially in the competitive sPvP and WvW modes.

Then again, it's not like the Wii U will ever have enough people consistently playing online to peak a MMO dev's interest, so this is like discussing what would happen if North Korea became a democracy.

Just for comparison's sake, when playing GW2 competitively I utilize 26 different keys. Good luck mapping those to the Wii U gamepad without dumbing the game down to a horrible extent.

This is of course ignoring the fact that most MMOs fail on the PC, which has a much larger MMO population. Entertaining the idea of a successful MMO on a Nintendo console, which is known for having the smallest online population, is definitely out there. There's no way a developer is going to take that risk unless the Wii U online population changes dramatically, and even then, the MMO would have to be ridiculously simple compared to PC MMOs in order to be correctly played on the Wii U gamepad.

I'm even adding a video to reinforce my point: [youtube:yzBn32Fqm9w]
This guy averages four or five keys a second. Replicating this on any type of controller would impossible. Only on a keyboard can you have access to 25-30 keys all at once within milliseconds. Which in this case, is absolutely necessary.

U dont use the buttons, thats the whole point. U use the pen to click the spells quick with 1 hand, and stick controll the character with the other hand. Just like playing the Mmo`s on PC with keybinding.

Left hand stick controll + L button target. Right hand with pen.

Even World of warcraft would work "perfectly" on the Wii U.

But dont see it happening this generation when developers are so negative towards the Wii U.

Yeah I'm sorry but you must be talking about a different "Gamepad", because the one I use to play my Wii U has this really neat touch screen that MMO's could really take advantage of. Anyways you could easily give a person access to the number of buttons mentioned above with ZR being a quick swap. But if that's to complicated for you then I understand why you think they need to dumb down Guild Wars 2. As far as the Zelda, Guild Wars 2 thing, yes I was referring to the puzzle jumps, and the fact that they are both RPG's. Furthermore the community is there for an MMO on the Wii U but as mentioned above the game would have to be advertised and supported quite a bit more. I've never even heard of Dragon Quest X. An MMO that was supported properly would be a win win situation since consoles have not really been able to fully grasp the concept yet. In my opinion there are plenty of gamers who have only used consoles to play games which means a brand new experience for them. It would be like introducing World of Warcraft for the first time, and you know how well that panned out.

an action MMORPG? yes
those boring PC style, point and click semi-action MMORPGs? never I hate when they mix point and click with real time RPG and I bet many people feel the same way...

huh

I think GW2 would be a good fit, really any MMO with a limited action set would be great..But I would really love Diablo 3 to work its way to Wii U, that would be perfect!

if they made an MMO with gameplay closer to Monster Hunter(not an MMO obviously ) instead of the usual "Ragnarok" gameplay it could work....

As I said before in many thread like this World of Warcraft would just be horrible on the Wii U. First of I dont know about anyone else but when I play WoW I use 10+ keys for various things like macros and such an gamepad would not be able to handle that. Second Nintendo's online infrastructure is just horrible for WoW. The fact that everything online is tied to the system is just horrible.

Honestly if the Wii U were to get an MMO they would have to make one from scratch that utilizes the Wii U hardware. Taking an existing one like WoW or Guild Wars 2 would not work.

If you're using 26 keys you must be playing an ele , Which would be impossible on any pad i agree. However GW2 could easily work on the Wii U with very few modifications but i don't see it happening. I've played GW2 since launch and even converted my mmo disliking brother to it by setting up an xbox pad for him. I've tried it and its functional in both SPVP and WVW but my naga + Nostromo set up is obviously more efficient as would be a mouse and keyboard.

Also don't forget people said the same thing about FPS back in the day, that they would never work on consoles because the aiming would be too inefficient etc, now some of the biggest selling franchises on consoles are FPS.

AlexSays

1) I do play an ele

2) FPS games do not require a crazy amount of buttons. The idea that 25-30 keys can be mapped to the gamepad and accessed easily within milliseconds is absolutely nuts. The idea that using a pen to cast spells would somehow be quick and efficient is absolutely nuts. You'd look like you had Parkinson's if you tried to play somewhat competitively at all.

I knew some of you believed the Wii U gamepad was the Lord's gift to gaming, but this 'it can do absolutely anything' approach is taking it to a whole other level.

As for the TC, I don't even know where to start with you.

If you honestly think GW2 and Zelda are both RPGs, and somehow in the same ballpark, I don't see myself being able to show you the light.

I'm not big on MMOs in general. They've never appealed to me and I'm not sure how well it would work out on a console in general.
But a real time strategy game with the Wii U could be neat. You could manage everything on the gamepad and have the world map on the TV.

The original Frontier games was for PC and I think the 360, but the new Frontier G ended up going multiplatform. Wii U is one of those platforms, so...yup. :3

I would love more Monster Hunter, but capcom is so stingy with bringing the series over here as often or in as many forms as in Japan. As i said before, any game with a limited action set system would work fine as long as it has no exception (which i forgot that GW2 has a few depending on class).
