So... I just got my Wii U yesterday and I have been trying to pull the Day 1 update to no avail. The connection test I run is working, though, so my Wii U CAN reach the internet. I know that yesterday there was maintenance, and updates won't pull during maintenance, but it seems like it is over and I am still having the same problem. Is anyone else experiencing this or does anyone know why this may be happening?
The problem with it being the router is that I live in a dorm and have my internet provided to me so I have no control over that. I'm using a LANAdaptor that worked for the Wii (I even could update it). The connectivity test is passing, and the advanced wi-fi support at Nintendo said that means it has at least internet.... I'm guessing all I can do is wait, but I wanted to know if anyone else had this issue.
And I do want to get the update before the next launch so my NNID isn't taken.
Not today. I did yesterday and they said to wait to see if the problems were due to the eShop maintenance. I am in a place that I won't be able to get the info they are after so I though I would check to see if anyone here has any experience.
Any wild shot guesses? I'm gonna try some off-the-wall stuff when I get back to it to see if I can find a weird fix.
What is the actual failure you are experiencing? Are you getting an error message (if so, what is it?), or does it look like it's just stalling? Note that this is a 5GB update, so it will take a long time for even the progress bar to update.
@PinkSpider You should be able to. I've formatted my 3DS and was able to download all my games for free again. I'll go and try to find solid evidence for ya.
@PinkSpider As long as it is the same Wii, you should be able to download. Just make sure NOT to remove the Wii Shop Channel.
Like, here, in this video (at 1:48): http://youtu.be/vmqzbdecV9c?t=1m48s — when you get to this stage, just proceed and DO NOT remove the Wii Shop Channel. That is only for if you're selling the console and don't want your info to remain in it. Of course, in this case, you DO want the info to remain so you can re-download.
Also, make sure you backup any saves to SD card, as those will get lost.
Finally, why are you reformatting? All it will do is remove your channels and save data.
I'm getting an error that states that my WiiU could not connect to the server. Funny thing is when I take it to a new network it works fine, but I contacted the network managers and they said it was on Nintendo's side.
It's really weird.... if I turn on and let it sit for like 10 minutes the first app will take another 10 minutes and then work fine.... great even. I'm on it now! If I try anything before then, we have some problems.
I had the same "could not connect to server" on first attempt, but upon booting it up the next day I was prompted to update again and it worked fine. I don't know what the problem is here, and I'm sorry I can't help you. I did unplug my console once I was done with it at the end of that day, so perhaps unplugging the power cord and replugging it later could help. If it continually recurs you should call Customer Support.
