GameCube didn't have download Indie titles. It's almost like comparing apples to oranges.

Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.

Not really, most indie titles today wouldn't have seen the light of day in the GC era. If the GC did have downloadable indie titles, most of the games TC mentioned would still be retail.

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

The GC had Alien Hominid (Which was originally an indie flash game). And it is basically the only run n gun on the system. (And good).

The Wii U got a lot more games this year, although not spectacular games, it was definitely more than this list of yours shows.

Anyway, the GameCube never had a bad lineup, it was pretty solid throughout its entire lifetime.

This is actually more a reminder of how dead retail games are for anyone who RIGHT NOW has less money than what you'll make in your lifetime.

The gamecube was on par with the competition and was super easy (relatively) to port 3rd party titles for. Therefore a 3rd party game did not have to sell very much at all to make it worth porting a title. Multi-plats in that era were pretty much always all 3 consoles of the time.

The Wii and the Wii U take much more effort to port games because they are vastly different (and less powerfult) than their contemporaries therefore multiplat games take too much time money and effort to port to the system and the games wouldn't sell well enough on the platform to make it worth doing.

The volume of Wii U software compares favourably to the N64 which many people still adore. If we just use first party games, released within 18 months from launch, for the last 3 Nintendo home consoles you will see a pretty similar pattern except the Wii had plenty of games people wanted to play at launch.

The gamecube had slightly more exciting and more varied games for its time but I remember being a worried Nintendo fan with dwindling support and Nintendo looking like they didn't care. The Wii U only really has a couple of showcases for its hardware whereas the Gamecube always seemed like it was showing off a great feature (cruelly overlooked by the PS2 masses of the time).

I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

Yeah but the exceptions are the only ones that would be good enough ever. What the Wii U has today is loads of absolute rubbish. (You can see by the fact you can get them for 1$ or less all the time - the good stuff that doesn't happen).

If you don't like the Wii U games it's your problem. I think Unepic, Child of Light, Scram Kitty, Pure Chess etc are great.

But there is a clear distinction between retail games and indie games. Retail games do tend to be much larger in scope/more ambitious. All of those (aside from Pure Chess), are 2D which can be a limiting factor.

That all said, the skyrocketing cost and time for developing game has reduced the number of retail releases across the board, it's not just the Wii U.

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

The fact that you left out Virtual Console and eShop titles makes this list invalid

I didn't even go through that list. Most of it is garbage.
Finding Nemo? Batman: Dark Tomorrow? Shrek Super Party???? Most of that list is kind of shovelware in itself.
