Topic: Wii U Gathering Dust Already....

First of all, I should just say that I've owned every Nintendo console since the NES and I'm a Nintendo fan, this is why I was always going to buy the Wii U.

However I'm no fanboy and I'm also lucky enough to own both a PS3 & Xbox 360.

Now, as I own these other consoles the only game I wanted on Wii U at launch was NSMBU, which is solid enough but nothing we've not all seen before (just now in HD).

So my point is already I'm questioning the total lack of games & features on the Wii U, even going back to the Wii it feels like there's far more to do and far more channels to look at than on the Wii U, this surely can't be right?

I really feel more than ever now that the Wii U has been really rushed out the door by Nintendo, there's just a total lack of content and things to do on the Wii U, I'm not daft I know in time things will improve and we will start to see some quality games released that's why I went ahead and picked the Wii U up at launch, but, I have to honest and say it really worries me that Nintendo are going to take to long getting anything worthwhile released, the console already seems to be struggling to sell in the UK and with the next MS & Sony console's surely now not far away I do have real concerns for the future of the Wii U.

I just hope Nintendo have some surprises up their sleeves, otherwise I think the Wii U will really struggle.

So am I worrying about nothing here, or do more of you have similar concerns????

Wow it's been 1 month. There are over 20 games available. I guess some people can never be pleased.

Heck, I'm not saying you are expected to like the games available but as far as launch was concerned, Wii U's lineup could go toe to toe with any system released so far.

Bought mine at launch, haven't gotten bored of it yet, I'm still playing NintendoLand. And I use Miiverse on a daily basis, Netflix is also really good on the WiiU IMO. So I don't think I'm in the same boat as you.

I have noticed that I haven't touched my 3DS since I got a WiiU though.. I think that might be because I play my handhelds at home and now I can just use the GamePad. (and get a bigger screen and more beautiful visuals as well.)

There's been more games in the Wii U launch than any other console to date (at least almost any other console to date, correct me if I'm wrong) - and even if you say the majority of them are ports or naff, the exclusive and decent titles are enough to give a good choice! Have you even looked at the other games out there or just settled for NSMB and said "that's enough to make an informed decision"?

One thing that worries me is all the bad sentiment Wii U is getting. Wii U daily is reporting Japanese Wii U sales are bad yet after 3 weeks it's actually ahed of Wii and well ahead of PS3.

It's like people want the Wii U to fail.

Please! don't get me wrong guys, I really do like the Wii U itself, but I truly think the best thing about the console at the moment is "potential" my concern is simply that I worry how long Nintendo may take in getting some true system seller games out for the console, because for me at launch there aren't any.

Believe me, I have really looked hard to see if there are any other games worth picking up for the Wii U, (I also own Nintendo Land, only because it was bundled with the console) but I've just not seen anything worth getting, games like Batman & Mass Effect 3 I already played a year ago.

The only games I know that are coming that I'm interested in are Rayman Legends & Bayonetta 2 (God knows when that will see the light of day?), other than that there's nothing that's been announced "yet" to get me excited, oh, Lego City: Undercover is also a possibility.

I really do want the Wii U to do well, and I know Nintendo usually come good in the end, but I just wish there was more to do on the Wii U at launch, but at the moment I've already gone back to my other consoles (including the Wii).

I see your argument here, being a multiplatform gamer I don't see too much awesome on the console just yet. I'll wait for the time Monster Hunter releases!

We all want there to be more 'Nintendo' games but they are coming. Nintendo have said they actually held back some titles because of the strong 3rd party support. Sadly though, their games do take ages to make but when they do release, we are rarely disappointed.

For me the Wii U wins hands down. I have an Xbox 360, but why should I buy black ops 2 and other online games and pay £30/40 a year to have a dashboard full of adverts and to play online when I can play online for free on my Wii U? As well as have decent conversations on Miiverse with likewise gamers instead of being abused by thugs and ego maniacs over Xbox.

@RJB Like some of the other posters, I feel there's this undercurrent willing the Wii U to fail - given enough negative and fallacious reporting this may happen because the perception has been created.

I'm a little disappointed to read that you seem prepared to write-off the console because it hasn't got the titles you wanted, in which case I s'pose you should ask yourself why you did that knowing exactly what was being released.

As I've said - to the point of being sick of repeating myself - this has been the best console release that I've been a part of.

I bought the Wii, PS3, and 3DS, given the negative crap surrounding the Wii U, none of these consoles should ever have survived the first six months of their lives either if 'no games I like' was the sole defining factor in each case.
The number of release titles and/or the high percentage of 'fail' titles in nearly every case should have been - according to current, misguided sentiment to the Wii U - the 'touch of death' for all of them.

So no, the Wii U is not a fail, the doubting sentiment is.

However, in your particluar case, I'd say you just jumped the gun because you like Nintendo and that over-rode your cash-flow common-sense when it came to what you wanted to play

I hope your right about Nintendo holding some big releases back, but I have to disagree about the "strong" 3rd party support, the only third party support seems to be for year old games, while upcoming new games like (for example) Devil May Cry & Tomb Raider don't appear to be heading to Wii U anytime soon if at all, this is not a good sign IMO, it's easy to port over year old games, but if Nintendo are really going to get proper third party support they neeed to be getting more new games released at the same time as other consoles like they have managed to do with Assassins Creed III.

I think I'm just disappointed that we've not had a 3D Mario, Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Luigi's Mansion, Donkey Kong Country, Punch-Out!!, Zelda etc. or anything like these games released at launch (or even announced), these are the sort of games I want on the Wii U then I'll be far happier.

Personally I don't think Nintendo is ever going to be about third party support, I've always bought Nintendo consoles because of the many exclusive franchises, this has always been Nintendo's biggest strength by far.

No. There are people who are not happy with the Wii U. Often for legitimate reasons.

Believe it or not but not everyone has to like your favourite toy, and that doesn't mean that they want the product (or Nintendo) to fail. They are just disappointed.

Of course said people might not have been wise to buy the console at launch (this happens with every single console launch), but by the same token if their console is collecting dust, no fanboy willpower on your part is going to change that fact.

To be fair your probably correct in saying I could easily have waited a while before picking up the Wii U, I think it just come down to the fact that I always buy Nintendo console's and wanted to own the console from day one so I could see it improve and watch it grow over the coming months as I'm sure it will, I just did not expect to notice the obvious lack of big Nintendo releases so soon as I have done.

But I certainly don't want the Wii U to fail neither do I see it as a failure, I just think better games should/could have been released at launch and more effort should have gone into the console before release.

Well I have to say I disagree. You seem to forget that the Wii had almost no download content for well over a year. I got mine in October 2007 and WiiWare didn't launch until the beginning of 2008 (if I'm remembering correctly). And in case you've forgotten we're in the middle of a global economic crisis and people on the whole have never been big buyers of gaming consoles in the UK.

I'm pretty sure the PS3 was a bomb at launch; it took years to get any traction and the Wii U launch has been pretty healthy by comparison. In short: it's too early to play "chicken little" and offhand I'd say you've just got too many competing interests for the Wii U to hold your attention. For myself I'm well-satisfied with it and I'm looking forward to what's coming next!

There's some absolutely fantastic 3rd party titles hitting the ps3 / 360 (from feb onwards) so my wiiu will probably end up gathering dust aswell ... It'll probably just get used when the likes of Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing etc etc hit the shelves... But that's what happens when your a multisystem gamer. /shrug

I think I can relate to the OP.... the problem is, we don't know anything beyond the launch window games. We need more news.

And seeing as the launch window closes at the end of March, there must be a lot of stuff that we don't know about

Edit: not that my console is gathering dust.

Got mine at launch and I'm still having a blast almost every day. Even more as I just bought Trine 2, Little Inferno, and Nano Assault Neo.

I have a solution: go to Wal-mart and buy a duster!!
