Topic: Wii U Games Future Availability

Just registered an account here to ask a question. So let's start by saying hi. Hi everyone!

Let me just apologise in advance if this is a stupid question. I'm not the type to always be up to date on all sorts of news, even if it's about stuff that I'm interested in. Since my income is not very high, I tend to (have to) wait some time for consoles to go down in price before I can purchase them. Usually the wait is several years. I missed out on a NES Classic Mini because early on they seemed to be out of stock everywhere and now they've gone up in price by at least 300% most places I've looked. When it comes to that one, either I overpay by a crazy amount, I get the actual real NES and end up paying a fortune for all the games I want or I stick to emulators.

Anyway, the Wii U was on my list of acquisitions and production has apparently stopped, I have just started to look around for good deals. Haven't found much but will keep looking. My concern is about the games, though.
If I'm unable to find a decently priced Wii U console, I'm worried I won't be able to get the games I'd like to have for it. Not a big fan of emulators and illegitimately acquired videogames.

Long story short: has there been official word on the Wii U catalogue (at least any games that are exclusive to the console) being made available on the Switch or for other Nintendo consoles? Or will I have to go looking up info pages for every game I like?

Thanks! Sorry for the long post and all that.

@BlackMilk Hi, welcome. I used to be in a similar position to you re. video games.

There is no official position on Wii U games coming to Switch, and I don't ever expect there to be.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

There's currently no official word of WiiU games coming to Switch. Switch getting ports of WiiU games is likely handled on a case by case basis and I doubt we'll ever see all of WiiU's exclusives, let alone its entire catalogue ported. I wouldn't count on there being a WiiU VC on Switch either.

Suppose it's unrealistic of me to expect any official announcements since the Wii U is considered by some (many? I don't know) to be a flop but it's not something that came out only last year or so.

Sounds like you guys think it's better to make the investment now? Keeping in mind that I care about my collection and don't like having to go the route of getting stuff digitally and/or illegally?
Like I said, my income isn't very high. But at this time I can certainly afford it, I just need to find out if waiting is an option and if the Wii U games I'm interested in have no guarantee of making it to another console, maybe waiting isn't a great idea.

I waited too long with certain titles on the N64 and GC and some of us are hard to find or very expensive now. At least compared to just a little while after the consoles came out. I used to buy reasonably underrated titles for about 10 euro's a piece on eBay, bunch of them are going towards the price of a brand new triple A title in retail.

Well, take Tokyo Mirage Sessions, for example. I've wanted it in my collection since Day 1, but because I'm not much of a JRPG player, I didn't want to pay full price for it.

I bought it today cos it's finally dropped to £25 for a new copy. It might drop further, or it might dry up and go higher, IDK. And while I think it does utilise the gamepad somewhat, I don't think there's anything stopping it being adapted for Switch one day.

But it was made for Wii U, and it's my Wii U collection I'm committed to; Switch I'm being more selective on for now.

There are games like Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Star Fox Zero that I doubt we'll ever see out of the Wii U - they flopped hard and I doubt Nintendo wants to throw more money at them to rework the aspects needed for them to appear on the Switch.
You can enjoy now the Nintendo Selects range, which should be $20 per game either physical or digital. And as long as the Wii U eshop is up, you should have easy access to all major releases. I do think that if the Wii U eshop is shut down, we'll see price increase on certain games that had limited runs - the first print version of Bayo 2 (the version which includes Bayo 1) is already going up on price from what I've seen on eBay.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
