This may be a dumb question, but can someone tell me if there is a way to find out which wii/wii u games can be used with controller only? I dont like waving the nunchuck or gamepad at the screen. The interactive part of the wii controller is what has kept me away from it. However, people have told me some games you can play with a gamecube controller or wii u gamepad without having to move it around or swing it at the screen. How can i tell which games have this feature? Thanks for your help.
Look at the back of the game's box. It'll tell you what controllers are compatible.

If i dont have the box in front of me, is the info online somewhere? Also, if it says the game uses the wii u gamepad, it doesnt necessarily mean u have to swing around with it. You can also use it as a classic controller. Id like to know which games offer the distinction. Thanks.
I don't think there is a compiled list of games and their compatible controllers, but a simple Google search can help you search for individual games you might be interested in.
If a game is Gamepad compatible it does not always mean you have to swing it around. Usually games that offer multiple controls schemes, meaning you can use a variety of controllers to play the game, don't utilize motion controls.
Games like Super Mario 3D World only has a few levels that require use of the Gamepad, and it's just interacting with things on the touchscreen, no motion control. Wind Waker HD has optional motion control, you can use the Gamepad to precisely aim your Bow and Arrow and other items. It's not mandatory, but it's a useful feature.

Both are excellent responses. It says super mario 3d world uses that classic controller but u say there are parts where u must use the gamepad? So i have to switch controllers back and forth? I dont have an option to just use the classic controls?
Also, on the back of some boxes, mario 3d workd in particular, it has a picture of a controller with a number 4 on it. Does that just mean its four players? I also see a picture of the classic controller + nunchuck. Whats that about?

It's a 4 player game. You can play 3D World using the following controls.
Wii Remote
Wii Remote and Nunchuk
Classic Controller (and Wii Remote to connect it)
Pro Controller
Gamepad
If you want to play the Gamepad levels, you will have to switch controllers, which is actually rather easy to do. Also, the Gamepad levels are at a branch of a path, so you can pass that level and still progress through the game, and then come back to the level whenever you want. Those levels are few and far between, so it's not that big of an issue.

Super Mario 3D World can be played with up to four people, hence the ''4''. Other players will have to use either a Wii Remote, Wii Remote + Nunchuck, Wii U Pro Controller, or the Wii Remote + Classic Controller (Pro). But you can also use one of those options yourself in single player. It's not possible to play with more than one GamePad. I believe that the GamePad is always listed as the default controller, well, because it's the main controller.
As for the levels in Super Mario 3D World, the levels that use the GamePad, there's only one level that comes to mind, only requires you to tap the screen a few times. I don't think that's too much of a nuisance, even if you don't like the GamePad. Besides, I believe that those levels are optional as well, and are not necessary to beat in order to finish the game.
[edit] I just went through the levels on Mariowiki, and there's only one (optional) level that requires the use of the GamePad, and one Captain Toad level as well.
Thanks so much for your help guys. The UK site is fantastic too. Just what im lookin for. I will be getting a wii now thanks to your help. Thanks again.
I think you may have a mis-conception of the Wii software library. Most of the Wii's best games barely use motion control for other than a waggle which is basically a button press. It would be a shame to skip over Super Mario Galaxy because it uses a wiimote and you have to shake it to do the spin move and point star bits or to skip Metroid Prime 3 just because it has a few motion based gimmics tacked on. These games do not suffer from motion controls.
It sounds like you simply don't want to play Wii Sports or Wario Ware smooth moves basically (skyward sword). You really should give the rest of the wii library a chance no matter which controller you have to use to play it. There are some great games.
