Topic: Wii U Gamepad suddenly stopped working...

Hello people! I have a tiny problem with my Gamepad, and was wondering if anyone has the answer I need. Basically, I was playing Injustice: Gods Among Us when the Gamepad suddenly switched off for no apparent reason. The red light wasn't on saying it was dying or anything before it suddenly stopped altogether, and I tried plugging it in only for the indicator light that should say it's charging not showing up either.

I sent an email to Nintendo about my situation, but they haven't gotten back to me yet. In the meantime, I figured I would ask and see if anyone else has experienced this problem, and (if at all possible) be able to help me out?

He may be right. open up the back and take the battery out. put it back in and see if it solves your issue. if not, i feel for you.

You could call customer service as well if you don't find your answer here and would rather not wait for the email.

Try what they said with the loose battery. If that isn't the problem, contact Nintendo and they will fix it or send you a new one in about a week after you ship it.

@AlexSays I would have usually tried to call first, but my phone was with someone else at the time, so I needed to just send something off quick just to get the ball rolling. I also thought customer service would be closed around then as well.

Tried the loose battery idea after going to the hardware store to get a small screwdriver. No results. I tried fidgeting with the cable and unplugging it for about 10 seconds but nothing worked. Looks like I'll be needing a new Gamepad it seems, though maybe it'll snap out of it on it's own before customer service gets back to me. Doubt it, but I'd like to think so.

Did something get into the battery or did it suddenly just go off? This is quite odd. Like the others, I would recommend that you call customer service.

I would call up customer support. I had an issue where the code i got for a eshop card wasn't working and they quickly gave me a new one.

Sounds like the battery went kaput. Hopefully Ninty will send you a new one post haste.

First off, thanks for all of the suggestions! You guys are great.

@MadAussieBloke Thanks for the tip, but looking at the battery, it doesn't appear to be swollen or puffy. I'm not sure that it is the batteries entire fault, since something like this happened before. I woke up one morning and wanted to check Miiverse quick, and the pad wouldn't turn on. I knew it still had a healthy amount of power left in it the last night I used it, and even the indicator light wasn't working like it is now when I plugged it in. So I went out to do what I needed to do that day and decided to call Nintendo if nothing worked still when I got back. Luckily, it did work again when I returned. I'm thinking this is a similar occurrence, but I could be wrong.

@Varia01 There was no prior warning to it happening, it just turned off. Nothing got into the battery, since I've never did spill liquids on it, or kept it in a dusty pace.

I still don't have my phone yet, so I can't call them quite yet. I'll update you all when I can get a hold of Nintendo though.

You should buy the 3rd party extended life battery, that way if you discover it wasn't the battery after all you have a souped up battery for when your new gamepad arrives from nintendo.

Could be the battery, like others said. I've had my 3DS since launch, & the battery went bad recently. It died after about an hour of use every time, so my brother gave me his since he uses his iPod for gaming now. Perhaps something went wrong w/ that or something else. Look on Nintendo's support site for troubleshooting while you wait for a response.

Can't the gamepad run directly off of AC? Try unplugging the battery and playing with it tethered to a wall socket.

Finally have the phone, but it's to late to try to call, so I'll wait till the morning to get it sorted out. Wish me luck.

@Emblem Maybe, but I don't really trust 3rd party accessories that much, Mostly when it comes to controllers and the like. Maybe a battery would be different, but I don't know... I'll just wait for the expanded ones Nintendo is releasing in Japan to make it here.

.@VincentV Checked through everything, but that was no help. It's only suggestion is that I should replace the battery, but I can't really do that.

@shinesprite Unless someone else is willing to try it with theirs to confirm, it does not. I had the battery out with it plugged in, and still nothing. I'm thinking this has more of something to do with the gamepad internally than with the battery.

@Lunapplebloom I just checked with my gamepad. With the battery removed, the only thing I can do is watch the battery light blink amber when plugged in.

As a side note, I was surprised how much the gamepad buttons rattle when held upside-down.

DGGames

1. Unplug the battery and leave it unplugged for several hours
2. Plug it back in, make sure it is properly connected and no dust is in there, and leave it like that overnight
3. Make sure you unplug and plug the charger back in before you try charging it again as well (connect it directly to the outlet if you aren't doing that already)
4. Try using it again the following day and it should work.

This is a bug / problem with the charger and/or software. Nintendo is fully aware of the issue and is investigating solutions for it.

Put the gamepad in the microwave on high for 1 minute... This is the quick way to charge the battery and solves all WiiU related issues

Finally gave them a call yesterday, and they said for me to send it to them. Looks like I'll be out of using it for a couple of weeks then.

@MadAussieBloke I can see what you mean about charging it fast, but that may be a little to fast.

@DDGames Ok, I'll try that out and see how it goes before I send it to them.

@shinesprite Yeah, that doesn't even happen on mine. The light just stays off. Thanks for testing it out to confirm my suspicions though.

It worked! My gamepad is back in business. Thanks for the help everyone. Looks like I won't be needing to send this into Nintendo, at least for now anyways.
