Does anyone know if the cable works to keep a connection with the console and GamePad? I recently started having problems with the Wii U staying connected. Today, I had to be right on top of the console in order to play. Thanks.
The cable, as i tried, does not help the connection. Mine got fixed, but is acting up AGAIN. This has to be the ONLY nintendo controller that i have a problem with.
I've been trying everything, am about to try pulling the battery, but I need a smaller screwdriver. It was working wonderfully, and then all of a sudden. The dreaded, lost connection to wii console....
DO NOT try to open up your Wii U yourself! You will forfeit any warranty you might have with Nintendo. I had this same problem with my Wii U. It got to the point where we had to sit right in front of the console, and then even that didn't work anymore. We couldn't even play it any more because it was freaking out so much! Here is what I did to fix it:
I unplugged everything from the console.
I used one of those air duster cans that you use to blow off all the dust from computer keyboards. They cost less than $5 at any office supply place. I blew all the dust out from the little fan in the back.
I waited a few minutes and then plugged everything back in.
I turned it back on and it's working perfectly. We haven't received any more messages saying that we've lost connection:)
I hope this helps!
So this problem has just happened recently to me, I think it happened after I got a little shock from static while it was charging, but I'm not sure if that is the problem. Unfortunately it is my Japanese Wii U and I don't think that Nintendo fixes consoles from other regions... I have tested the connection of my Japanese Gamepad with my NA Wii U(it is region locked, but it will connect and try to perform an update on the Gamepad before saying so) and it still had connection issues with it.
I can only get a decent connection if the Gamepad is pointed towards the Wii U with nothing in the way or when up close to it.

Just restored by disconnecting and reconnecting battery in the back and unplugging and replugging power to console. Then plugging charger into gamelan. Works fine now.

I've had a few unwanted and confusing disconnections, but it's always been because there are a million other things going on at once.
My cable box uses wireless connectivity so I can watch television, my 3DS is connected to the WiFi as well, my laptop is on a lot, my smartphone is connected to the WiFi also, and I have a few other electronics in my room. If everything is going on at once, on occasion my GamePad will disconnect.
Other than that, though, I can go to other rooms of my house and I'll be fine. My brother's room seems to be a dead-zone, but he has the same amount of tech as I do and it's a few rooms away from my own. I can go from my room to the bathroom, living room, and kitchen with a solid connection to play games.
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite
Wii U just purchased X-mas 2015.... started having same gamepad connection problem in Feb 2016...... same problem people were having 2 years ago??? Really Nintendo? Sighs.... should have bought a PS4 =/
I had the problem back in the day, but haven't had it recently. A few months back I had to bring my old phone back due to repairs and the connection problems returned. They stopped once I got my primary phone back, too.
So, it really looks like my old phone (Nokia N9) was the main reason of those cuts. Now I have a different phone and no problems whatsoever.
Sounds like most people here have interference issues. If not, it's possible that a faulty bluetooth component is to blame. Since my warranty is out I had the opportunity to fix both analog sticks for 10 bucks from amazon. works like a charm, though I understand some of you don't want to do it if the warranty is still in force or fear that trying it yourself will make it worse. That's just my personal experience.

Hello, I like many of you have had this problem but solved what was wrong. This may not be the case with all of you but, my router broadcasts 2 signals, one 2.4ghz the other 5ghz which is also the signal the wii u uses. What i had done is disabled the 5ghz signal. Since routers vary from each other i recomend you search how disable the 5ghz wifi signal for your specific router. If you dont have a router and you have this problem you mostly likely have a gateway modem which broadcasts wifi, which should be fixed in the same way but I have not done anything with it unfortunately. Hope this helps.
Do you have Microwave, wireless controllers, cell phone, metal, or even routers around you? I found out that I can connect at least 5 meters away from the TV in the basement while I only stuck with around 3 meters in the living room. The microwave, metal, and other electronic devices may shorten your range.
Yups, even baby monitors and water can interfere with IR.
If you have ruled out any interference problems, then your range problems are probably from a deteriorating bluetooth board chip located in the gamepad. Just open the back of the gamepad and replace the chip, its fairly simple and cheap. Below is the link to the instruction vodeo, there is also a link to purchase the chip on ebay in the video. Its like 14 bucks.
I just bought and changed the card that Dude80 has linked and it works like a charm. My gamepad was completely useless before. It lost connection even if i sat it on top of the WII U.
After changing this card i can connect from 7-8 meters away. Yiiiihaaa.
Change this card if you experience connectivity issues, it works.
