Topic: Wii U GamePad as the 3DS NFC reader?

We know the [original] 3DS will be getting its own external NFC later on:

But after reading that a update for Smash 3DS enabling amiibo support lands tommorow, I thought that it should be possible for the Wii U GamePad to serve as an alternate NFC reader for the 3DS. Now, I'm not saying that users should shell out $300 for one little feature, I just think it should likely be an option in a Wii U GamePad. The 3DS has the CPU to process anything that the GamePad has to read.
What are your thoughts? Do you think Nintendo won't do it because they would waste money making another external reader? Or because the GamePad is bulky and suited only for the home [which doesn't make much sense because I don't see anyone moving their amiibo around]? Or even because of the number of Wii Us in homes compared to the 50mil 3DSes in the wild?
