I didn't think the Wii U would be a major failure since its launch, until today. The console's touchscreen game-pad is just an unnecessary feature for any gaming console. Mine's screen cracked. I bought a replacement screen and tried installing it, but the game-pad itself is built like a fortress, so it takes lots of frustrating labor to reach the touchscreen. The game-pad turned on without the cracks on the screen, but the buttons wouldn't work. Not even the touch screen itself.
Worst part: all the replacement game-pads cost more than $150 and that's unfair. Now even I think the Wii U is an abominable failure. Nintendo should either work on an update where we no longer need the game-pad or we wait until Nintendo works on a better console, which I'd like to see in 2017.

I happen to love the gamepad, offscreen play, and never had this trouble.
Do you like videogames? If so, you must know
It's dangerous to go Alone.
Yeah, nice story there, fella. You should have been careful since you know how expensive is the Gamepad. And did you try to repair it by yourself? Big mistake there. If the console is still in the warranty, then you should have send it to Nintendo,
Making promise is easy. The hard part is keeping it.

Yep, but even if it still had warranty, Nintendo wouldn't fix it now. For all we know, he may have been hacking!

No, I was NOT hacking. Additionally, if I sent the gamepad to Nintendo to have it repaired, it would be $100 and I'm not willing to spend that much. In fact, I'll just buy me a new game-pad, no matter how ridiculously expensive they are!
There's a video that shows how to replace your game-pad's touch screen on YouTube. Google it and you'll see it.
I doubt it was the GamePad that had anything to do with the Wii U's "failure."
If anything, it was the Wii branding, minimal advertisement, and the internet (and other people's) general attitude towards Nintendo over the years.
Also, you should have sent it in for repair. I don't know what you did to your GamePad, but I've had mine since launch and it's fine. Heck, I watched a few drop tests on YouTube and the GamePad survived falling to the pavement. Is it crazy that it costs $100 to repair? Maybe a little, but it is (basically) a tablet with buttons...it's not like it's going to be cheap to fix.
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite
The game pad is a great feature in my opinion. I like to play a lot of Virtual Console games and the off tv feature is just amazing. Never had any lagging issues, the games look great on the game pad screen and it's so handy when my other half wants the tv but I don't want to stop playing.
My Porsche 911 is an absolute joke. A complete failure of a product. Porsche is the worst company ever.
What happened was, my niece drove my 911 into a tree and it got all smashed up. Barely a scratch on the tree. I took the Porsche apart (found a video on YouTube), it took me ages FFS, but when I put it all back together again it still didn't work. Porsche sucks.

Now you know. Next time, tell your niece to buy a tree.
The Gamepad has its flaws, for sure, but to call the console an "abominable failure" because it broke and you failed at repairing it is the most asinine form of logic I've possibly ever heard.
