Hi.

My Wii U game pad has randomly stopped working.

It no longer charges, and even when the charger is plugged in, there's no orange light, and no power at all to the system.

At first I thoguht it was a problem with the battery, but plugging the charger in would by pass the battery anyway, so it can't be.

Presumably then it's a problem with the charger?

Not happy with Nintendo at all. I've only just bought the console and it's stopped working a week into it's life.

Any help on what to do here or what might be causing the problem would be much appreciated.

Thanks allot.

It'll be under warranty, you could get it exchanged via the retailer or Nintendo directly

You still need the receipt as proof of purchase. Some places are weird about warranty issues if you don't have one.

Have you checked the battery? The battery is a plug-like type so I think it's worth checking.
Also, when I first brought my Wii U Pro Controller, it seemed like it wasn't charging (and of course it won't turn on) but I left it on the cord anyway. The charge light would flicker orange pretty fast then stay solid before it started working. Maybe it's the same with the GamePad...

God first.

Try performing an adapter reset. Unplug the charger from the wall and the unplug the charger from the Gamepad. Wait five minutes, plug everything back in, and see if it works.

My gamepad has the same problem except it will charge if the cable is held in a certain position. It flickers very worryingly or doesn't charge at all most of the time but is chargeable if it's turned off but sometimes it charges to full and other times it barely charges.

I think the cable has sheered off inside its insulation due to the very thin wire.

I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

Thanks for the replies.

I tried everything you nshgested and nothing seemed to work. I still have the recipt so I suppose that might have to be my next step.

I also tried something else.
Rather than plugging the charger directly into the gamepad, I remembered I had the charging cradle.

I tried charging it with that, but nothing happened.

This shows though, that it must be the charger and not the gamepad.
I could understand the charger port at the top being faulty, but the cradle charges the pad through the bottom, and I still had nothing.

Sending my entire system back seems silly when the problem is just the charger, but at the same time, it's BS that it broke on my within a week of use, so I don't want to spend an extortionate £20 + for something that was brand new and just broke.
Perhaps I can explain what's wrong and just get a replacement charger.

Nintendojoe64 - a similar thing happened to me. Within the week that this has been happening, I've tried plugging the charger in several times, and get no orange light.
However, there was one time I plugged it in and for a brief minuet or two, the orange light came on.

Thanks again for all the replies.
