Source?

Wii U need

1. Good games
2. Marketing campaign

Both will be happening soon. I hope it will survive since it's the last "traditional console" on the market.

@sinanziric Haha, "source"... seriously?

It problably cant get worse though ; ) Also i have seen a lot of people on different forums now saying that they will get a Wii U due to Microsoft confirming the whole 24 Hour Online-rule, DRM activation-thing with Xbox One. Also its a given that sales will go up in the fall when people are more eager to buy things as well as the releases of exclusive games (not only the ones from Nintendo). But Wii U definetely wont be another Wii in terms of sales. Nintendo will most likely go back to their good ol Nintendo-crowd (a 20-40 million userbase) that they had with Nintendo 64 and Gamecube.

Only a matter of time.

It's Wario time Yaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Big_L91

yeah it has to get better from here! from now till the end of the year theres a few "unmissable" titles on the way. there does need to be more marketing done tho. the xbox and PS IMO will make it easier for the wii u to appeal to people and stand out. its easier to understand what the wii u does well when its sat next too the xbox one.

put it on.

Source on vgchartz !! ;D Increase to 27 thousand units

Let us see what Nintendo will bring out at E3 !!

Actually, with any form of product if one brand is heavily advertised, all of the market feels the benefit. If you put an advert on the TV for 'Painto' brand paint, people will say 'oh, my room needs painting', and they go to the shop to buy paint. Due to price, availability, and if they think an alternative is better in store, they may buy another brand.

When people get reminded about video games consoles with the press for the Oxobox and the PS4, they'll also start thinking about the Wii U, how its available now, how its more family friendly, and is likely to be cheaper.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

^That actually makes a lot of sense. Like how seeing a McDonalds ad reminded me to get Wendy's on the way home, seeing as I like Wendy's more and it's closer, and they also sell burgers like what I saw in the McDonalds ad?

Makes sense. Still, after E3 sales are bound to shoot up by Nintendo's own hand - not to say that the Wii U won't still receive somewhat of a boost from other consoles being advertised, as your statement is wholly correct.

I think you're forgetting that the market is much larger than it was 10-15 years ago. The last generation had 254 mill units sold but If you go back to the N64 era it was only 154 and I see no reason for that trend not to continue. I don't know if this new generation will be as big as Microsoft claims it will be (they say 1bill) but I wouldn't be surprised if it's bigger.

Now if that's the case Nintendo could fail horribly and only get the dregs of the console market. Be there purely because they have some cool IP that a fraction of the market are interested in..... and still have a viable platform. They could potentially fall flat on their face and move 60 mill units.

It can only get better for the Wii U from now on. The only thing holding it back at the moment is a lack of must-have titles. Microsoft (and Sony, to an extent) are facing a HUGE uphill battle with their next gen consoles, particularly if game publishers dictate the availability of used games for both systems. That's one advantage Nintendo has gained in releasing the Wii U early- it has NONE of the restrictions currently plaguing the Xbox One. I for one am very tempted to pick up a Wii U now, and I'm hoping for a killer E3 from Nintendo!

Current games: Splatoon, The Witcher 3
Upcoming: NX...

I don't think sales with sky rocket immediately after E3. The games that every body want to play still won't be available the day after E3. I can't see millions of people running out to buy the system now and leave it to collect dust until 3D Mario and Smash Bros are out.

I'm not saying the sales won't pick up. I believe they will towards the end of the year, however unless the Christmas line-up is spectacular and their marketing is on point, I don't see them selling more than 2-3 million consoles.

@Phatosaurus
3D Mario, Wind Waker HD, Pikmin, and W101 are for sure this year. Even Game and Wario comes out after E3.
Maybe not everyone cares about these games, but these are actually the reason why I bought a Wii U on day one.
100s of people go through Best Buy everyday. As long as Nintendo makes sure people know the for sure release dates for games at the Best Buy event, and have the appropriate demos on display, there's really no way to screw up.
They could even be giving out $10 coupons(there are going to be promos. just don't know what exactly)at the Best Buy event towards the purchase of the Wii U, or a game. They're also handing out Luigi stuff.

There's games. E3 is at Best Buy. Great.

I too bought a WiiU for those games (among others) but we are a minority.
I think the Best Buy displays and demos are a great idea, but isn't it limited to only 6 stores? I don't live in the USA but I know it's a big place and I'm sure those 6 stores will get a lot of traffic through them, but still the impact this will have seems a little limited from where I'm sat right now.

Like I said, I'm not saying the sales won't pick up, they just won't increase significantly until the games are out and on shelves.

It's actually 86 or so stores. Not 6.

It is? Well that's much better. I only skimmed the article a couple days ago, I could have swore it said 6.
