Topic: Wii U from my point of view

Hello everyone,

You may not remember who I am, but I feel like I should say something. I have not bought a new game in a very long time and I do not plan on buying a new console anytime soon (if at all this generation). What I want this thread to be is something that allows you to see inside the head of someone who has left the gaming realm (for the most part). I wanted to share my view of why I have little to no interest in Wii U.

The main reason at this point seems to be that I don't see what makes Wii U a must own console. That excitement I had for Wii (a motion sensing controller in the mainstream gaming world and such) is non-existent for Wii U. To this moment, I see nothing I can readily access that will cause me to buy Wii U. Something that really makes me feel like there is a desire for buying a whole new console just for what I see as a tablet controller with buttons. Something that's different, but looks fun and easy to jump in, learn, and play (difficult to master would be a plus lol). If there is something, I haven't seen or heard of anything about it. The last thing I saw on TV even slightly Wii U related has been a Wii U TV ad with awkward music and people play different games in different colored rooms a while ago.

Another reason is that, from my point of view, the only kinds of games that are coming out are the games that take days, weeks, or even months to complete. The same kinds of borderline CGI films or shooting games seem to be coming out as these are the only games people I'm around on an offline still talk about. In my mind, why should I buy a new console, when I can already play these games on what I already have and cheaper? Again, if there are games out there that are different, I apologize. I just have not seen these games nor have I heard of them.

Honestly, upon re-reading my post, I see my reason is focused heavily on originality and more simplicity regarding the game itself. Although I fear persecution for saying this, maybe this is why I do more gaming on my smartphone or tablet. Deep storylines don't happen, but I have come across quite a few easy to pick up and play original games that really tried something. Not all of the ideas were fleshed out, but for about 99 cents or 5 dollars, I have come across some great tries!

I have no idea if this will help provide you with insight into the mind of someone who has no intention of buying Wii U as I see many people proposing a lot of theories as to why Wii U is not selling a lot at this point. I wanted to provide my insight to you all so I, someone in this very demographic, could help provide reasons.

Your point of view does seem more game focused. I personally like the Wii U for the same reason you like your Smart Phone games, there are more rewarding experiences. This is why I have been going more towards indie titles then your normal AAA titles. This is why I have downloaded more games on my Wii U than I have bought in store. This is also why my Xbox keeps collecting dust while my Steam Account is seeing a lot of small transactions. I believe this is a bigger view than why the Wii U isn't selling and more of why Kickstarter has become so popular. I would recommend you try looking on steam or kickstarter, there are plenty of indie titles that don't require powerful systems that offer unique experiences. I believe Little Inferno, Trine 2, and Mighty Switch Force HD might be some great Wii U downloadable titles for you.

Indie games! That's what I was trying to say (I couldn't think of what they were called lol). To be honest with you, I am not aware of how vast Wii U's library of Indie games are, but I believe you have brought home what I'm looking for. I probably wont buy Wii U because I still think it's a bit too much to buy a console just to for it's indie games, but showcasing more of those games available would make me, at the very least, look at Wii U eventually. Do you know if they have games that use Wii U's controller uniquely but are simple/ easy to jump in to and learn?

I also apologize @shadowing. I made this account a while ago as a strong Nintendo fan, but I kind of...well...'fell off' if you couldn't tell already .

No offense, but this is a pretty useless post. I got to admit, this post isn't as ridiculous as most like it, because you explain how there are other ways to enjoy lite games or simple concept games that can be fun.
Not all games act like CGI films. Hardly any do really...
Wii U is adapting the market you're talking about BTW. The Wii U can potentially deliver all the games you say you enjoy, plus having the core console experience.
I think you would be choosing the wrong gen to miss out on, just as you would if you decided to miss out on ANY gen before or after.
There's going to be more than just Wii U, but the appeal is hard to understand at first.
In reality, anyone who has ever played a game console would NEVER go phone games over console. That's just what I think though.

IMO the reason the Wii U isn't selling is because there aren't any good games, at least for me. I can play MH3U on my 3DS, and I'm not buying a new console for online play, and the other games tend to bore me. Until I see something I feel like I need I won't buy it.

Honestly NintendoLand. It comes packaged with the system and it does show good ways to use the GamePad. For the most part there isn't much for interesting GamePad use. I do think Trine 2 is best on the Wii U beacuse the controls make the most sense on a touch screen. Little Inferno also uses the touchscreen well but not in a way where you have to play it on Wii U. NintendoLand has something like 15 small games and most of them have a clever way to use it. I enjoyed ZombiU for a very atmospheric survival horror, the controls are a little clunky and it does get a little repetitive. So basically I would suggest NintendoLand for you, maybe look into the ZombiU Wii U Bundle (comes with a black Wii U, GamePad, NintendoLand, ZombiU, and a Controller Pro) then check out all the downloadable titles such as Toki Tori 2, Trine 2, Little Inferno, and Mighty Switch Force HD.

Yes but it isn't as easy to get into. I don't mean it is a complicated game, I just mean that my parents wouldn't be able to get into it. Someone with your level of gaming skill should have no problems. NintendoLand, much like Wii Sports, introduces the controller to people. It might show a developer a new way to control a game and it might offer a player a new experience.

the indy games are what brought me to wii u aside from waiting for Mario Kart 8. I love trine 2 and nano assault neo, Zen pinball and more on eShop and some real cool ones being developed like Shovel Knight and 90s Arcade racer. its great playing these games on the gamepad while watching news or netflix if i want or in bed when i cant get to sleep! I just really like the download service nintendo is building with indy games. and virtual console next week will be good.

it was a pricy purchase for sure but im having a great time with it.

Likewise . It's been a while. Just came back to see how the site was holding up since Ieft and I get a heap of good information about why Wii U is pretty cool (at least for me).

Who knows. Maybe getting a better marketing presence would help because, had I known this when my refund check came in, I may have had Wii U on the list of things to pick up. Lol. Again, thank you for your help. Pixel added icing on the cake .

Fun looking unique game for Smart Phones and possibly Wii U if they get a lot of backers soon.

I wouldn't really call it hating Nintendo (if it was then it would cover more than the WiiU and about Nintendo as a whole.)

Firstly my last Nintendo Console was a Gamecube, and Will say off the bat I had no intention personally of getting WiiU, like the thread starter I heard about the WiiU, and dismissed it.
However, My eldest lad 5yrs old went around one of his freinds house and when I picked him up he got me to play a game with him on his freinds WiiU.
It was only Nintendoland but I saw immediatly the apeal and possibility of the Gamepad.
A few weeks later partly as my lad was still raving about it and I had been pleasently suprised I picked one up, the idea being I'll have the Ps3 untill Ps4 came out and the WiiU would be the 'Family' console.
As time went by I found that I was playing the WiiU and the Ps3 was left to collect dust.
Sony then announce the Ps4, and if I am honest I wasn't amazed, yeah the games look prettier but apart from a few neat social media sharing options (which probably could be added to Miiverse at some point) there wasn't anything 'NEW', the games shown were prettier versions of what I've already played for years on the ps2, and Ps3.
As a result I really don't have no interest in the Ps4, Unless Sony show me something truely New at E3, I'm unlikely to get one and even if they do It will only as a secondary console to buy games not released on WiiU, but even then I won't be getting one at launch.

This is the thing that seperates the WiiU, the Gamepad. It might not be as obvious as to what it can do to add an extra element to gaming as the Motion Controlls of Wii (which I was never interested in on any platform), but it does.

Coming back to Nintendo after so many years away really shown me how old, and stale the gameplay feels on the ps3 when compared to WiiU, even the same games on both platforms feel fresher on WiiU, something as simple as managing items on Darksiders 2 using the gamepad makes the game less of a chore as you not pressing several buttons accessing several menus.
Plus having Off-TV play is a god send when you have a wife & 2 kids demanding the TV for most of the day. (Thers only so much Fireman Sam repeats & Soaps I can take).

People who, admitedly included me, write off the WiiU without really giving it chance need to rethink thier stance and find someone/someway to spend a bit of time playing a few games on it that show what the gamepad can add to games in ways that flashier graphics can't.

Nintendo also need to do more to promote the system, In the UK they did a 3DS roadshow when it was struggling to sell. Travelling around the country letting people experience the 3DS. It proved successfull and sales of the 3DS rose, If they did that again for the WiiU I'm sure a lot of those people who can't see the benifit of the gamepad will have a change of heart for the WiiU, even if its as a Secondary console.

After a few months of having the WiiU, I have a few downloaded Ps3 unplayed games, and the Console is used for Rocksmith, Singstar and as a Bluray player.
All other gaming is on WiiU.

And to put the low sales in perspective-
The Wii U is only about 10 percent behind the cumulative US sales numbers put up by the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 five months into their life cycles.
