Just got a new system today, I brought the old one to my father in laws and tried hooking it up there. He has fast Internet and an hd tv. It still froze. Nintendo support told me I may have updated at the wrong time with the server issue and advised me to replace or repair the system. I'm kinda afraid to try the new one but I guess if this happened with every single wiiu out there nobody would own one.

Will restoring the system not fix anything? Is that their only resolution they said could fix it? I don't want to already have to send my nintendo wii u to them to fix it after only having it for 3 months - especially when it's potentially their fault with everything that has caused problems with these server issues.

I deleted everything on my first system except my nintendo ID and it resolved no issues. The tech had me give him info on when it would freeze and info on the error codes that were given. My system was so bad that I could not use it for more than ten minutes without it being locked up and it was fully updated. I tried all the Internet tricks I could find and nothing helped. I played my new system for 3 hours and had absolutely no problems at all so the original was defective or I updated the system at the wrong time and it possibly somehow corrupted it.. I don't know exactly but the tech said the servers could have been part of the issue. Call nintendo support they were actually very helpful and assured me I would be taken care of. My nintendo ID will be transferred over to the new system as well because there was nothing that could be done to fix it besides sending it in for repair. I'm impressed with how good customer service is for such a big corporation.

I purchased my first Wii U back in September, since then i've been through 3 Wii U's, the problem is they would all freeze on me and make this weird buzzing noise, they would mostly freeze when i would play Call of Duty Black Ops 2 or Call of Duty Ghost Multiplayer, i used to think it was the Wii U its self but after i got my 3rd replacement i started to think it was something to do with the games, i would mostly play TDM, so i decided to take a break from it and play free for all for a whole week and to my surprise my Wii U never froze on me, so this makes me think maybe some of the players and making peoples Wii U's freeze some how? Have any of you guys expierenced freezes like this before? and would forcing the Wii U to shutdown a lot damage it because I'm very careful with my gaming consoles and I'm scared I'm going to brick it :/ cause its frozen on me so often.

0.0 That is very strange. COD is notorious for hackers though, so maybe you stumbled upon a hacked lobby in tdm.

Someone on Miiverse was saying that certain players would freeze their system. I read that people were saying they would freeze your game, then it would happen. It's probably just a glitch that happens and some people know how to trigger it.

My Gamepad just froze while I was playing Toki Tori earlier. It also made a strange buzzing sound. However, I was able to turn the console itself off and the gamepad then lost the connection. Plus, there isn't any extra external components attached to my Wii U. Finally, since I just updated the system today, I believe that it could be freezing because of hackers.

Maybe you shouldn't leave it out in the cold so often then.

It's happened to us a couple of times, with LEGO City and LEGO Harry Potter. It used to happen to my old Wii as well, which has led me to believe it may be a heat and/or dust issue, since those are two problems we have here. Is there a lens cleaner that we can use? The old Wii disc doesn't work on the Wii U.

I have yet to have any issues with my Wii U. Lots of things can cause it to lock up, but you mention a buzzing noise. The only things that could be would be the fan to keep the system cool or the disc drive as there are no other moving parts in the system to make that noise. This leads to the issue being either Disc reading errors and its frozen trying to get assets off the disc, or overheating and the fan speeds up. I'm not sure if this is a function the wii U has, but the Xbox/PS both have fans that will vary their speed depending of temperature readings. Though I wouldn't think it would make a 'buzzing' noise. Is this noise coming from the hardware or the audio?

I doubt it is hackers doing this, but I guess its always possible. Personally I would say its a bug in the game and its causing the game to try and get certain info off the disc to continue and can't. If the game caused a corruption in memory and the address the game is seeking on the disc is corrupted it would never find the assets it is looking for and keep grinding away on the same sector of the disc.

The sound we hear here is more like a sound effect from the game frozen in place? Like a giant BEEEEEP, although it's always the same tone.

Oh so its just a bug. That's good atleast you know nothing is wrong with the Wii U unit.

Well, sorta. Like I mentioned above, I'm afraid it may have something to do with too much heat or dust. I had to change my old Wii's optic drive twice. It started doing this, but then instead of just freezing, it'd show that black screen with "can't read disc. Please reset" or something or other. Right now it's pretty much dead, needing a third replacement I believe.
So when the Wii U started freezing as well, I got scared. But seeing as a lot of people are talking about the same problem, it gives me some hope.

That seems unusual to go through so many. Is your Wii U in a place that allows good air flow ? Is it on its side or flat?

Mine is now suddenly freezing and locking up like crazy, but I've never froze during an update so I don't know what the heck is causing the issue....

It's standing, and it used to be near the floor. I have now put it behind the TV, hoping it'll get less dust that way. And yeah, it's pretty much an open space.

The issue started when the Wii U had that 5 second update earlier week so maybe it's a broken OS due to a flawed update?

I have it for 3 months and it froze only twice, what makes me think that u might have been a little careless with it or really unlucky.

Sonic All Star Racing is really the only game that I have that freezes, but it's only occasionally. All the other games run absolutely fine.

Not careless or unlucky in the sense that got a defective Wii U because it's not defective, but it seems like the update might have bricked my unmodified Wii U by accident....I remember hearing that one of the Wii security updates actually bricked a ton of Wii's that hadn't been modded so I'm curious if this is what's happening to my Wii U?

Maybe its just me, but the Wii u is really prone to crashing. Maybe this is the case with all disc-systems (PS3, XboxOne, etc), but it didn't happen very often with my Wii. Maybe its the download-titles from the indies, wich probably have more bugs. Maybe it is my internet-connection. Or the fact that I have a 8gb model (so probably a early build). I use a 500gb harddrive by the way.

Maybe its a combination of all the above. Sonic allstar racing crashed a few times, Darksiders 2, Teslagrad, Paper monsters recut, but also Super smash (only once though) and Fire emblem vc (also once). And Sonic lost worlds is a gigantic crashfest. That game has crashed more often then I can count, I don't play it anymore. I really hope that Nintendo can make it so in the future that their disc-devices crash less often in the future. Its highly annoying, especially the buzzing sound you hear when it happens. But I also fear it damages the system over time. I don't think it will live very long.
