I purchased my first Wii U back in September, since then i've been through 3 Wii U's, the problem is they would all freeze on me and make this weird buzzing noise, they would mostly freeze when i would play Call of Duty Black Ops 2 or Call of Duty Ghost Multiplayer, i used to think it was the Wii U its self but after i got my 3rd replacement i started to think it was something to do with the games, i would mostly play TDM, so i decided to take a break from it and play free for all for a whole week and to my surprise my Wii U never froze on me, so this makes me think maybe some of the players and making peoples Wii U's freeze some how? Have any of you guys expierenced freezes like this before? and would forcing the Wii U to shutdown a lot damage it because I'm very careful with my gaming consoles and I'm scared I'm going to brick it :/ cause its frozen on me so often.

I have read about players spamming and causing these kind of problems on Ninja Gaiden 3 so you may be right.

I've had around 5 freezes since I got it on launch. CoD games are always more prone to freezing, for whatever reason. There's a spot where it always freezes during the beginning credits, unless I skip it.

You're right, though. It has to do with the software and sometimes the internet. I've been saying that since launch when I realized Miiverse accessed the internet in regular intervals and only specific software had trouble.

The first blackops broke my Wii, LOL. I'm telling you it's all a conspiracy! But yeah, I have had quite some freezes, Darksiders 2, Blops 2, you name it. I call it third party making games.

It depends. The digital versions of games tend to have less problems than the disc format. Poor optimizing and original design is the main problem, for sure.

No one's to blame, really.

The problem is as these games get packed with better textures, higher resolutions, fast framerates and more content the disc drive struggles trying to read all the data... That is why the MAB and many other associates are working hard to achieve a gaming industry that is DIGITAL 4 LYFE BABY

Basically. With the kind of job that these 3rd parties have done to get those 7th gen games running on Wii U, I wouldn't doubt that the same issues would have been present on the Xbox One or PS4 if they had ported them to those, as well.

GTA and CoD require HDD installation space to run on 7th gen systems. This would be an immediate improvement over last gen on any of these 8th gen consoles.

The Xbox 360 reads the disk, which tells the system to read the HDD. For a similar piece of software, the Wii U reads a disc where the data should be, but then it reroutes the read to another part of the disc, instead of the HDD like older systems. The 3rd party games on Wii U aren't even in an optimal format to be read on disc, because they're older games that have been limited by the hardware they were designed for.

My wiiu has froze on me at least 15 times in the past two days. I just bought it Thursday. Anybody have issues like this? The only game I've played is Mario u on disc and apparently I can't return the system because I already set up an ID and I don't want to delete it because I will lose all my 3ds games from the eshop. Is my system defective cause it sure looks like it.

@TonLoco
It's an issue related to the internet. If your connection isn't stable, freezes tend to happen. The Wii U communicates with Nintendo's servers on a consistent basis, and if you don't have a stable connection, it's prone to freezing.

Either shut off spotpass in the download area on the home menu, or try making your internet/router more stable. Nintendo is probably working on a way to make connections more stable, but there are fixes. It's definitely not defective.

Read the OP, they've had 3 systems that keep freezing. That means the issue isn't on Nintendo's side.

Lego Marvel froze tice - in the exact same location, mission 3 or 4 w/ Wolverine breaking into a big prison, just afer getting inside. Apparently this game freezes A LOT on all systems, but it's still freaking annoying.

I've never had any issues with my Internet stability. Amazon and Netflix run smoothly without any pauses and we have can have multiple devices running at the same time. Our Internet is stable as can be it seems. I wii try turning off spot pass though. I paid a lot of money for this system and I expect it to work properly without freezing and buzzing. It sucks that I have to jump through hoops just to get the damn thing to work. Thank you for the reply.

Nintendo is having issues with their servers still so I can only hope it is related to that. It seems to me that it is a common problem. I've seen a lot of posts on nintendo's website about consoles freezing up and I've seen no solid answers from Nintendo. I tried changing mii verse to English only, turned off spot pass, reset the Internet, deleted the Internet. I deleted all my settings and started over as well. It is very frustrating. I've never had so many issues trying to get a game system to work properly. My system is up to date also.

I honestly think the Wii U is a little more console than Nintendo could reliably make. Its not just them though, the Xbox360 had like a 60% or 80% failure rate, something absurd like that. PS3s have had issues as well. For the Wii U Nintendo created a new wireless protocol to hook up the Gamepad and system lag free, while simultaneously running WiFi. I returned my original Wii U b/c I was having too many problems - discs not playing, screen going black. Turns out the screen going black may have been a Wii U to tv issue b/c ,y replacement Wii U had the same problem, until I hooked up its HDMI cable to my new audio receiver, adn now it works. Strange but true. I think you have a bad Wii U. Unfortunately it happens. I'm sure there will b epleny o issues w/ the PS4 adn X1 as well. Sorry I cna't help, only commiserate.

Im gonna try and get nintendo support on the phone today and see what they have to say. It stinks that the nintendo id's can only be linked to one system. Im hoping they will add more features besides linking eshop balances and I wouldn't want to miss out on something like buying one vc game and playing on both 3ds and wii u. Hopefully it can be repaired or replaced without nintendo jerking me around. I have heard good feedback on repair shipping and what not but you never know. I really want to like my new system but I feel like I got screwed over.Technology is never certain I guess but like I said its very frustrating.

For general troubleshooting with freezes, do you have an external HDD attached to the Wii U? I was getting numerous freezes with the occasional inability to read that ext HDD on boot up, so when I swapped it for another drive, the freezing stopped. May not be what you're experiencing, but it is something to look into.

Hmm... I've not really been having problems with my U as of late, although it HAS frozen on me. Make sure your discs are clean, have a stable internet.
The causes sometimes are... weird. Switching one part of the main menu to another at the exact time the system will switch automatically when it has read a disc may cause it to freeze, although this may be due to poor network. Then, this one's weird, but... have a good HDMI connection.
I hate the fact that you must hard reset the console to go green...

God first.
