You need to re establish your internet connection most likely, so update your router if it needs it, and get your router working the best it can, then try re connecting by deleting your access point then reconnecting. This is usually an internet problem. They couldn't have tested over 2 million Wii U consoles BTW. They mass produce them from the original design. This has happened to alot of people(including me a few times). To fix my freezing, I ran multiple different apps, all each one time to run every app, which fixed my freezing even before the update. I hope you get it working. As much as people like to say it's Nintendo's fault all the time, it is usually not having everything in sync by the user of the console in order. Same goes for PS and Xbox.

Yea, I had mine freeze back in November maybe three times. I "redid" my internet connection to the console, made sure Miiverse was set to "English Only," and haven't had a freeze since.

Look up your router's model no. on google. Your model no. will be located somewhere on the router. If you can't find a firmware upgrade for your router on google, try using bing or yahoo.

To all you experiencing problems, I have emailed Nintendo about this matter and they said they will get back to me very soon and I will post exacley what they say so we get a official answer.

This happened to me. But I have 2 accounts, so when I try to log into my account (the one with Nintendo Network enabled) it freezes before even making it to the Wii U Menu. But then I try to log into the other Account (no Nintendo Network) it logs in fine. I suspect that the Wireless Internet connection is the problem.

This is a well-documented problem that has been occurring since launch. From what I've observed, most people have achieved full or near-full resolution of the problem by setting Miiverse language to English-only and/or deleting their Internet connection. That said, come on, Nintendo, at least acknowledge the problem and tell us a patch is on the way.

That's the thing though. They expect people to have a 90-100% efficient electronic/entertainment setup. I honestly think that at this point, they would be 'down'dating stuff for everyones equipment to work, including routers, TVs, etc. Wii U never suggests to get a certain NAT type ever. They just expect you to have NAT 2 probably, considering people have needed to meet certain requirements for their electronic setup for quite some time now. This whole non-sense about updating ever little 'poor' decision made in how the Wii U works, would end up making the console less efficient. Everyone might as well ask for the Wii U to support a R/F input for their black and white/older color TV, but people would still be pissed, because they need to buy an extra cable, or the R/F cable is to hard to screw into the TV. Was anyone pissed when their Xbox 360/PS3 needed a router/modem to get interenet on those consoles? Sheesh... Get the right equipment to play your Wii U, or don't.
