Topic: Wii U for the win!

Hi everyone. I'm still relatively new to the forums but I'd thought some of you might appreciate what really goes on in a "hardcore gamers" mind. I've read many topics about the Wii U failing on different levels for different reasons. Some things I've read on here, are quite off however IMO. I won't go into details but by many of the standards of members on here I would be the so called Hard Core gamer. So here is where you are wrong.

Gamers such as myself are not merely shoot em up, hack and slash only types. Nor are we only attracted to photo realistic games. Furthermore where you've really gone wrong is thinking that the Nintendo is failing in the first place. Before I continue I'd like to say that the rest of this topic is almost entirely if not fully opinion so please respect the "to each the own" rule here.

Moving on, the Nintendo Wii U is a winner! Contrary to popular belief generated by internet gossip the Nintendo Wii U is not doomed. What makes it a winner has nothing to do with sales reports or 3rd party support numbers. What makes a console a winner is not what everyone else thinks about your console but what you think about your console. So here is my winner winner chicken dinner opinion about the Wii U.

The Wii U is not flawless but there are plenty of reasons why I would take a Wii U over a PS4 or an Xbox One. The Wii U has a better community built right into the system, known as Miiverse, not to mention it's more friendly and helpful. Thank the gaming gods here that Nintendo is the ONLY console that does not ask you to sync with Facebook and Gmail. I would own a Nintendo Wii U based on that advertising scheme alone.

Now let's talk controllers. With the Xbox and PS4 I have to purchase an additional device (PSVita, Tablet) for remote play. This device comes bundled with the Wii U Console so yeah thank you again Nintendo for saving me even more money. Not to mention The Wii U is already $100 cheaper than a PS4 and $200 cheaper than a Xbox one. Your looking at a possible savings of $400 or more depending on how you'll decide to configure a PS4 or an Xbox one.

Moving forward, there is the graphics limitations. Yes the PS4 and Xbox One are capable of surpassing the Wii U in graphical capabilities, however have any of you read that COD Ghosts only plays in 720p natively on a Xbox one. Also the Human eye is said to be unable to discern more than 720p in resolution and the Wii U plays some games in 1080p. Of course I've heard contradictions to this so who knows either way as a "hardcore gamer" I can tell you graphics aren't everything. In fact they are the least important part. The important parts that make you want to play a game for 100's of hours on end have to do with community and entertainment value. I played Final Fantasy 13 on Xbox 360 and it was graphically beautiful. So I played the story line and found I had no desire to continue on further. Great Graphics are not everything and Nintendo has realized this. But all that aside did I mention I've played games like assassins creed 3, tekken tag team, and Zelda Wind Waker HD on the Wii U. I can tell you right this moment I'll be playing for months and months to come just on these titles alone.

Friends, Playstation, and Xbox fans, oh and "Hardcore Gamers" alike, I'd like to conclude this by first referencing that old book by it's cover saying. To wrap things up that's exactly what the Wii U is. An absolute classic (Legendary Item) waiting to be opened and viewed. The cover (hype) surrounding it is sub par and dull compared to the shiny ones around it. But hey do you find true treasure in your games by leaving the dull wooden chests unopened or do you leave no stone unturned in hopes of finding the rarest and most legendary items. Now to the wannabe "hardcore gamers" out there who bash systems and only stand behind one console or one game your title is null, void and fake. I've been opposing evil in my games for about 18 years now and it doesn't stop here. This time I'm standing with the Wii U for the battle, though I'm sure I'll have to try a couple games on a PS4 and xbox one just to see the what the hype was all about (Leave no stone unturned). Oh and FYI I never owned a Wii, PS3, or Xbox 360. Played games on all three systems, none of them really did it for me it was PC for me last Gen and my PC was graphically better than a PS4. So when I tell you it's the Wii U this gen it really means something. Haven't had this kind of wow factor since the Nintendo 64. Thanks Nintendo, and to Nintendo Wii U fans hang in there. What is truly good can not become bad based on other peoples opinions.

Good post. I tend to ignore comments that put down consoles as "complete garbage" when in reality, they all bring something to the table. I do agree with you though, this is probably the first time in a long time that I've been super stoked for the majority of games being released on a console: the Wii U.

Interesting insight. I wonder how widespread this kind of perspective may be? Are we perhaps in for a January surprise regarding reported Wii U sales figures? I'm guessing not, but it would be a nice upset of conventional assumptions.

Good post.
Want to add something about the graphics. There is also a difference between real graph and artistic graph. In my opinion the Wii U looks like its just as powerful as the 2 others, because they pump out games with such an awesome artistic graphics
Its not for everyone, but i like it.
This + graphic styles seen in The walking dead, the wolf among us, dreamfall etc is awesome, and thankfully the Wii U can handle them all.
I also belive the typical AAA games with Realistic graphics are gonna point abit down now or stabilize, and we will see games as i have mentioned just become more and more popular.
For me, Indie games + nintendo = thumbs up*

I love the Wii U just as much as you do. Virtually everyone on this website does. That's all the really matters - we, the Nintendo community, love it. Thus, it would be for the best if we all stopped worrying about how PS4 and Xbox One sales figures will compare and instead just happily discuss our love for Nintendo's products.

Do not get me wrong. I am a Nintendo fanboy who does hope the Wii U outdoes the competition. If it doesn't, though, I won't be upset. I won't be disappointed. I'll just keep on loving Nintendo.

Trust me, this website would be a much better place if we just refocus our attention.

Awesome read. Very true on all counts. You are not alone on your opinion. I champion the Wii U and 3DS every chance I have. Point out to others the greatness that is Wii U and explain how if Nintendo fails; we all fail. What would be left? Rehash shooters? Big spending on making ultra fancy graphics that will eventually lead to higher priced game costs? No more risky innovations that is for sure. So hoping for Nintendo to fail is bad for everyone. Even Sony agrees; they want Wii U to succeed Just as much as anyone.

I think the Wii U is great, but I wish in Europe they would get TVii sorted out and have the BBC Iplayer on it... want to watch the new Dr Who on it, and Top Gear when that comes out

Your link doesn't exist.

As to the OP: Ok

I HAVE to have Smash Bros., Mario Kart, Zelda, Mario, Pikmin, etc., so Nintendo will always be my first console, because of those games. I understand not everyone has the same opinion, but advertising has and never will be important to me. Also, I plan on getting an Xbox One once more games are available that interest me. The only games I'm interested in on the other systems are Killer Instinct and Dead Rising, which are also only on Xbox One, and I find that Xbox One has better system features and will be supporting Kinect if I find myself wanting that.

Anyway, I second @MAB's "DIGITAL 4 LYFE, BABY". That's all I got to say.

Wii U for the win, also DIGITAL 4 LYFE BABY!

Enjoy those beautiful physical 'invisable' boxes, manuals and carts. Yeesh, how are you gonna empress them ladies with your empty 'Zero nostalgic' book shelves of digital nothingness.

Game covers these days have some of the most forgettable images you could ever think of while CD's are worth a pinch of poop compared to carts... Don't get me started on the manuals or lack thereof they produce when I already know that ↓

So now this in turning into a digital vs. physical thread? Just for the record, my ext. USB 3.0 HDD is 4 × 3 × .5 inches approximately, all hooked up via a USB 3.0 y-cable. I can carry about 100 20GB full retail games, all in a device smaller than HALF of a game case.

What would be interesting, though, is if one single game made use of that entire 2000GB(actually about 1870GB. whatever), but that's a story for another time...

EDIT: Also, I would have to swith HDDs half way through the game, because 2TB wasn't enough...

@SCAR392 I have 15 retail downloads, 12 indies and 25 VC (also about 200 Wii VC) on my 2TB mofo and the grand total of space left is a whopping 1734 GB. You can hook another 2TB up if you use AC powered HDD's like the MABster to bring a 4TB full on assault to the party... I won't be needing that much artillery for another 5 years depending on how many awesome games are coming, so let these punky brewsters play their choppy framerate, long loading glitchfests while we sit back in our well worn a$$ grooves and play the superior D4L versions

Megaconfincedoverdrivebonusround! Yeah, baby! Damn right!
Wii U for the win!

There, now that the thread's back on track...

I intend to go mostly digital, myself. ^_^
The only thing that worries me, is that hard drives WILL fail. It's just a matter of time. I have had some hard drives work for over ten years, though. Plus, I fully expect to be able to re-download in the far-flung future. A 2tb drive should really last for the entire life of most consoles. Unless I hit the lottery, or something.

But yeah, Wii U will be my only system this gen. Wii U, 3DS, and PC. With a crap-ton of reto systems for good measure.
