Hi. I've bought the Wii U. My model produces a buzz noise during cold start (about 1 minute) of the console, as shown in the following video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3UovuCggRc&feature=youtu.be

After 1 minute, the noise goes down to a very low level shown in the following:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3is8miZ_Zzk&feature=youtu.be

Is it normal? Hows your fan noise? Should i replace my unit??? I've used it for about two days and, beside the fan noise, the wii u as not any problem (only a freeze exiting from nintendoland).

Michael, Italy.

That is typical of pretty much all of the consoles I've ever bought (the worst being the PS2, except that fan noise never stopped the entire time while you played) No need to worry, it just shows that the cooling system is working.

Your Wii U is fine. Many users had the same problem, but apparently nothing happened.

...I don't know...my Wii buzzed a while back and got worse later on its life and eventually the disc drive died out. Got it repaired and now its quiet as ever.
Anyways I never noticed any buzzing with my Wii U.

The Wii U fan is much bigger and heavier because it has more work to do, the Wii U CPU/GPU chip gets much hotter.
It is also a lot noisier.

Most machines like gaming consoles and laptops do this anyway. The fan makes a loud noise for a minute or so to get 'warmed up'. After that it usually quiets down.

Thankyou for your answers.
My question is: does your wii u fan produce the same noise during cold start, or is my fan "different"? A noisy fan could means that it vibrates, thus it works at lower rpms.
I'm still dubtfull if i should return my console or not :(

Because the Wii is not has powerfull has your Wii U.

The CPU/GPU have more power than the one in the Wii so it needs more cooling.

My Wii fan is fine but once I insert a disc the drive makes a buzzing sound. I'm just glad it survived until I got my Wii U...

I see but the initial fan noise seems a lot the noise coming from a vibrating fan, such a fan on my old pc to stop the which i use a pen cap...

Hi to all, joust to inform you that i changed my wii u for a new one to the shop were i bought it. The noise becomed too high and i've experienced some freezes. The new one is silent as a mouse and never freezes!
Now i'm having a big problem with nintendo service becouse i can't register with my network id becouse it's paired with the old console serieal. They want the old serial and the new serial to port the network id to my new console. That's madness! I can't retrieve my old serial and now my nintendo club account is paired with the old network id. What a mess Nintendo!!!
Should i create a new thread for this big mess?? Some other of you experienced something like this with Nintendo?

I though my Wii was supposed to buzz loudly when I put a disc in...

This is a signature.
I mentioned signatures, which makes this a meta-signature,
A meta-signature mentioning meta-signatures is a meta-meta-signature.
Hence, this signature is infinitely meta. Does Meta-Knight have a self-awareness of his own name?

I think it's best you contact Nintendo and tell them everything that happened. I also recall an article saying that Nintendo themselves can swith your account to a new Wii U. Im sorry you are having so much trouble.

It's not the "power" that matters so much as the power consumption. For some clarity the original launch Wii used about 19W compared to the 360/PS3s ~180W. The newest versions of the PS3/360 use around 65W while the Wii U only uses about 30W. This is despite the Wii U being marginally more powerful in terms of visuals than the PS3/360.

The noise that the Wii U makes, or at least I have found, comes mostly from the disk drive not the fan.

yeah your console is fine mine makes some noises when it starts out which is normal like my desktop but after that its rly quiet which surprised me since the xbox 360 still makes more noise

my wii though makes more fan noise lately which is odd more when i have a disc on there =/ but i have dropped it by accident so maybe the fan got loose a bit
