This doesn't surprise me too much. Both because saying Wii U is underpowered is a thing stupid people say, and also because what they've shown of Sonic Boom is definitive proof of Wii U's power (which itself is not surprising considering how the HD Sonic games have often been some of the best looking titles around).
EA is actually one of the few companies that have publicly stated, that they have their newest game engine(Frostbite) running on Wii U, so I wouldn't say EA is "hating". Even though Ubisoft has published alot of titles on Wii U, they haven't stated whether their new engine is running on Wii U. Since AC: Unity won't be on Wii U, I'm guessing not, even though there's still more to it than having the said engine, running.

Do you have a news source on this? All I've heard was that their internal Frostbite 2 tests wasn't good enough so Wii U wouldn't be supported by Frostbite 3. And then there was the recent April 1st jokes from the Frostbite development, ridiculing the Wii U.
Adding the ability to have split-screen doesn't seem impressive. The engine should have been able to do that from the get-go.
Split screen is very taxing why do you think it all but disappeared the last generation? The main reason I have a Nintendo console is due to their commitment to split screen and local games.
With this generations focus on 1080p 60FPS expect to see a lot less split screen games on non Nintendo consoles (Indies excluded ofc).

AFAIK EA mocked the Wii U for not being able to run Frosbite 3 due to hardware limitations yadi yadi yada which we know for a fact, is BS. I never remembered them publicly stating that the Wii U can run Frostbite 3.

My apologies... EA said that Wii U can technically run the newset Frostbite, but it isn't part of their priorities, as of last summer. Also, since Google is spammed with the April Fool's "joke", it's making it kind of hard to find info...

Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.

And even then, they're still not pulling it off 1080p 60 FPS.
Pretty much. The focus this gen isn't on 1080p 60fps. The focus is on making the game look really good when you watch gameplay footage on youtube. Which means single player, 30fps, 720p with all of the effects
