For people that want to buy their retail games as downloads when available, that could really be an incentive to at least get some discount, although I doubt it would be enough to sway me, but the program is great for download-only games still.
I was already going all digital, now I can get rewards for my 3DS as well, after a few buys I can buy another 3DS retail title

It will be hard for me to not have the physical game. Not sure what I'll do yet.

The reason I'm going digital is I buy more game then I finish, and this way I have the title when the next gen system comes out and not worry about rebuying just to play on the upcoming system

Lol, good thing I'm not going with the Deluxe edition. Having to touch that Nintendo Land garbage was enough to disuade me, this just adds to the pile.

haha... You are going to have to explain yourself with this one Mac. I can understand where you are coming from on NintendoLand but how does something that is optional dissaude you?

Because it's an insult to me as a Gamer and a Nintendo Fan, plastering on a semi-likeness to otherwise unrelated and, in many ways, watered-down games, created solely for the purpose of getting Non-gamers familiar with the brands. It's an advertisement disguised as a game, and I won't stand for it.

But you're going to miss out on so much extra stuff for just an additional $50 D:

I couldn't help but notice that you didn't answer his question.
I have the same one.
He was asking why the optional promotion dissuades you.

Whoops, I meant to say how does the digital promotion dissuade you? Interesting take on NintendoLand there. Though I may not necessarily have as strong of feelings as you do, a part of me agrees that it is disappointing to see this mini game compilation bastar...um, simplifying favorite franchisees for the masses and turning them into low content mobile phoneesque type games.
To blessed to be stressed.
80's music makes me feel fabulous.

Oh I read that wrong, sorry. It's because, instead of cutting the prices I'm paying now, it's only giving me points to spend later. While that might work in the long run for Nintendo, that's not actually saving me money I can put towards other things. I'm still paying the same price, but every once in a while they'll throw me a bone? Screw that.
Yeah, this might persuade me to a order a standard WiiU. The thing is, ZombiU is the only bundle game I'm really interseted in, and the games on launch are likely to be extortionately expensive. I've said this before, but the launch line up (just like the 3DS) doesn't appeal to me at all. But I'll have my Wii collection to tide me over because I'm very confident the game swill come - just like the 3DS.
This digital promotion sounded sweet to begin with, but having to spend in 500 point increments (after registering a purchase on a seperate website) just seems a bit of a let down. I'm going to end up with something like 388 points, and I'll be unable to spend them until I purchase something to bring it above that arbitrary 500 point level. And when the promotion ends, my points will surely dissapear into the ether, because what can you do with 113 spare points that you can't add to?
In this regard, Nintendo are being extremely disingenuous.

Who's to say it's 'instead of' cutting prices? This promotion is just a bonus for people buying the Deluxe/Premium model. People who get it will probably get to enjoy both price drops as well as being able to utilize their Premium/Deluxe bonus.

I'm confused how you don't see the value in amassing credit towards future games that will never expire. For every full price game you buy, you get $5 cash back towards your next purchase. Even if you use that $5 on your next purchase, you still earn an additional $5 off of that new purchase so if it's easier you can think of it as pay full price for the first game and then get $5 off every other game you buy online for the next two years - that adds up. If $5 doesn't seem like much, you can think of it as for every 5 full price games you purchase, you get 1 for half price. Or another way of putting it is buy 10, get 1 free. Either way it's free gaming cash that comes your way, every time, not just once in a while. You can bet that no matter how many trade in deals you do at GameStop it will never work out to that same value.
So for the extra $50 that people spend on the Deluxe model, people are getting a $60 game, 3x the internal memory (probably worth $10 as an SD card), bonus accessories (probably worth $30 retail), and $5 credit on every game they purchase online for the next two years. That's $100 value for the cost of $50 before you even factor in the discounts, I'd say there's value in that even if you never bother to play Nintendo Land.
