Hi,
Bought my son a wii U console, he used it once, he put it on the charging console , came back to play a couple of days later and it stopped working - it couldn't be switched on.
Anyway after a month I got around to sending it to Nintendo as a warranty repair - who now say the reason it won't switch on is a scratch on the screen - is this likely?
It may well have a scratch on the screen now - it was lying around for a month before I sent it to Nintendo - but it was spotless 2 days old when it stopped working.
Seems they are using the scratch as an excuse to charge for the repair £85.50 (as a scratch is not covered under warranty).
a CRACK on the screen would be a big problem. that's maybe what they mean by a scratch.... though I guess customer induced damage isn't covered by their warranty.

No its just a scratch not a crack about 1 cm long. Bottom line though the issue with the gamepad not being able to switch on occurred before scratch occurred. Scratch occurred just prior to me shipping gamepad for warranty repair of the switching on issue.
Nintendo using the scratch as an excuse to charge for repair.
So don't accept.Kinda sounds like nintendo is being a little bit of a money grubber. Troubleshoot the issue if you think you can do it. Have you tried anything yet before you sent it off? Did you get it back yet?

Yes feels same to me, not impressed with their attitude to customer service £85.50 for the screen repair effectively.
Just heard the gamepad's can now be bought on their own in Japan for equiv. £70 perhaps I'll wait for them to sell over here!
Is being unable to turn the Gamepad on a recognised issue with Wii U? - have found many hits on the issue, suggesting unplugging battery - which we tried, syncing which we didn't etc.. but if these are known remidies you would think Nintendo would take you through those before suggesting sending unit for repair.
All in all not a very good customer experience! Shame we loved the original wii, thought this would be an upgrade, there is only one place Nintendo are going with customer service and products like this!
had stopped working prior to scratch - unable to turn gamepad on - is this a common problem
I don't think it is a common problem, but if the GamePad was stepped on, thrown, or something, I could see it doing internal damage but not much external damage.
how old is your son? how old was the gamepad "laying around"? it could have received some bad damage in that time. overall it doesn't sound like you treated this $400 piece of technology with too much care..
