Topic: Wii U Cons

I love playing with my Wii U, it feels so good.

The gamepad fits in your hands and it's Hd, being able to play without tv via remote play, but there are some cons that need to be fixed in the next update or so if possible.

Nintendo Wii U cons

You can't control the Wii menu with the gamepad.

You can't play Wii or virtual console games using the gamepad.

You can't control the Wii menu using the touch screen.

It's name Wii U seriously, that's why it isn't doing so well as it should, because people mistaken it for another Wii.

Wii U online is awful, they are still using Nintendo Id's instead of names, maybe have like a create account procedure and a reward system. Sign in with email/username, password and make it accessible through an app on mobile.

The Wii U gamepad and pro controller doesn't have springy triggers.

Not enough customisation to your Mii Verse account such as being able to change your profile name at least once and why can't we use this as an online account.

Wii U can't play dvd's or blu-rays and if it were to, you'd be able to have bigger games that would run off the same format.

Wii U gamepad doesn't have a tough screen at least gorilla glass, the screen is also not big enough and you have to use a stylus why no finger.

Some games are still going to use the godawful Wii Mote.

Not enough third party support including indie games.

Specs aren't as powerful or on par with next gen which makes sense since it came out years before, but at least make it noticeably more powerful than the Xbox 360 and Ps3.

Can't upgrade the hard-drive but it does have Sd slot but hard-drive would be better or at least have the ability to use an external hard-drive whether it's accessing it or backing up your date for example digital downloads, dlc, gamesaves, virtual console etc.

The start up menu is sort of weird, it goes into the Mii area type place with avatars walking all over the place, why not just get straight into the navigation menu.

I know people are gonna say it's a games console and it sure is and having other options such as using it as an entrainment device to do other stuff would be so much better.

That's how you dominate the market Nintendo, the Wii U needs to do other things beyond just playing games because not everyone uses a console to play just games.

My main two cons are a huge gap in retail game releases and the frustrating nonsense 3rd party-Nintendo relationship where no one involved understands how reality works.

Non-binary, demiguy, making LPs, still alive

1 - 3 you couldn't use a Wii Remote to play GameCube games on Wii, I don't think it is an issue at all. To play Wii games guess what, you need Wii controllers which are still being sold in stores.

4. Wii U as a name isn't terrible, the way they announced it and marketed the system was the problem. People don't seem overly confused with Xbox One.

5.The online isn't awful, not sure what you are talking about.

6. Both the GamePad and Pro controllers have triggers.

7. Miiverse Profiles are connected to your Nintendo Network account. Not sure what you mean.

8. Not sure how being able to play movies would result in "bigger" games.

9. The GamePad's touch screen is a different type f touch screen than smartphones. you can use your finger you just have to press on it because of the type of touch screen they have (probably used this touch scree so they didn't have to pay someone to use it)

10. Yes some games use motion controls, but Wiimote is not a bad controller. Most games don't force you to use it.

11. 3rd Party, we all know this is an issue.

12. It is noticeably more powerful than the 360/PS3.

13. Since they allow you to use an external Hard Drive I don't see the problem with not being able to upgrade the internal Hard Drive.

14. What are you talking about? Do you mean how it shows Miiverse stuff on the TV while you can Navigatge your games on the touch screen?

Most of your complaints don't make any sense. Why did I waste time commenting on this? Next time I will try to hold off from commenting on a worthless thread.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

A lot of valid points, but these two aren't true, the pads do have triggers, do you mean analogue ones? Also you can use most external HDs with the system, plug one in via USB and you have a load more space for digital downloads.

How would this allow you to have bigger games? Sorry if I'm being dumb.

1. Nintendo already has a reward program called Club Nintendo.
2. Wii U doesn't run DVD or bluray movies, but it still uses a type of DVD and bluray disc for games.
3. The Wii U GamePad and Pro controller have triggers.
4. The screen not being big enough is your opinion. Some people don't even want it there at all. They use resistive screen technology specifically for stylus control, which is something that doesn't work very well on capacitative screens.
5. Wii remote being "god awful" is your opinion.
6. The specs are next-gen. Wii U is the only next generation PowerPC machine, so many developers haven't figured out how to use it yet; instead targeting ×86.
7. The Wii U supports external HDDs.
8. The Wara Wara Plaza(the place with Miis) is only on your TV. The navigation menu is on the GamePad.

Alot of your points are immediately countered. It doesn't even seem like you have a Wii U, dude. Your points either literally make no sense, or are subjective, PSN doesn't let you change names either.

Probably my gripe would be the lack of basic online features that have been around for 8+ years.

Your not being dumb. The Wii U can still read DVDs and bluray discs for game content, so the point doesn't make any sense.

I was going to reply, but I couldn't bother to answer every little complaint, DefHalan made some great points.

Looks like I'm the only one here who has a DTS/Dolby surround system or cares about surround sound. Because all my other consoles/PC have it and the Wii U can only produce it with the mostly useless linear PCM.

What he meant to say it that, the GamePad and Pro Controller uses digital triggers instead of analog triggers

The only complaint I have about the Wii U is that you can't go to Wii mode with your GamePad. If we can play Wii games on the GamePad, then we shouldn't need the TV to go to Wii mode.

Internet issues.
Miiverse and the Warawara Plaza are also a bit flawed
And the biggest con: It only came with 28 Gigabytes of free memory and is still Nintendo's biggest model when it comes to memory. I really want a 500 GB Version because I plan on downloading alot of games, I don't want to bring my hard drive around if I plan to bring my Wii U to my friend's house.

I care about surround sound. That's why I bought a Sony reciever that does 7.2 linear PCM. All audio signals originally derive from PCM. PCM IS digital audio.

A receiver that doesn't do PCM is basically outdated by this point, anyway. I haven't seen a NIB receiver without at least 5.1 PCM since like 2009 or 2010.

You can use 32 GB SDHC Memory Cards, they go from $17 to $24.

I know that. I saying that we can't go to Wii mode using the GamePad, we have to turn on Wii mode through the TV. I remember a few months ago we could go automatically to Wii mode by holding the B button before the system fully turn on, but they got rid of that feature.
