Honestly I don't think the jump from ps3 to ps4 is going to be all that big... The jump from ps1 to ps2 and ps2 to ps3 were huge because the resolution went up.... We are locked in at 1080p until new HDTV's with higher resolutions are released (maybe in 20 years?).... The move from ps3 to ps4 will be pretty small, and not many people will be able to tell the difference. I'm more concerned with gameplay, as I have PC gaming machine I built last year to play games with amazing graphics that even the next playstation can't touch.

Um, UHDTV (Ultra High Def) technology already exists. Theoretically, Sony could choose to utilize the technology in an attempt to both sell new televisions and the PS4. Do I think they will? Not really, it wouldn't be a wise business move this early on. But higher resolutions than HDTVs do exist.

My main concern about the Wii U, is when in the love of God/Yoda/Odin/Pikachu is the next Metroid or Zelda games comes out?

Zelda is already being worked on, I expect it to be announced at E3 but we probably won't see it for a couple years. Metroid? Don't hold your breath on that one, Nintendo stepped away from the series after the questionable Metroid: Other M and does not seem anxious to return to it anytime soon. My guess is they'll skip this generation, like they did with the N64.

I would not bet money on your guess. Both GC and Wii got 2 games respectively, and I'd wager that we'd at least see a bit more than Metroid Blas on the thing.

I'd love Other M, even with the acting voice. The game is good, with a lot of references to Metroid Fusion.

But I'd guess that yes...probably we have to wait 2 o 3 years to see a new metroid game.

Especially seeing a Metroid game in NintendoLand, it kind of encourages the notion that Ninty knows we love and crave more Samus!

I seriously doubt any core Nintendo franchises will be given a rest. If the Wii taught them anything it's that Nintendo software is what drives sales of Nintendo consoles. I'd be more concerned that they'll flood the system with Mario games in order to keep the cash registers lubricated.

3rd party ports are nice for those of us who only had Wiis, but new software is required to keep any momentum. Pikmin 3 would have been better to have at launch than another multiplayer Mario game so soon after the last one.

Hey, I personally loved Other M, it's not my opinion that it was "bad". But at some point after Other M I remember reading an interview where I think it was Miyamoto that said they were going to give the series a rest after that game. If we do get a Wii U Metroid, I think it would be late in the system's life, definitely not within the next couple years. Metroid isn't as much of a moneymaker for Nintendo as Zelda, Mario, or Pokemon, especially in Japan. Still, only time will tell if they're gonna give another go with the series so soon. I'd be ecstatic if we got a Metroid title for Wii U, and even happier if we got a sidescrolling one for the 3DS (though I doubt that one even more, we haven't gotten one of those since Fusion).

Star Fox isn't a core Nintendo franchise.

As far as popularity go to masses, I think Starfox and F-Zero are the neglected projects of Nintendo and aren't considered as popular. I would rather have a new F-Zero over Mario Kart, and Starfox over Sin and Punhisment anyday. Those are the only similar games to those I could come up with, but Mario Kart is just using Mario characters, while F-Zero has other unique characters that are left. Sin and Punishment is more of an exception I think, but Starfox is a more friendly game compared to that even by Nintendo's standards IMO. I don't think Nintendo will let those other games get away this time. Mario has already had 4 Mario Karts in the last F-Zero GX timeframe, so I'd say it's only fair(and the smart thing) to do this time.

Wii was good for the first year, but taking the systems life in consideration, it got poop for games. Not even a real FF title or a real Tales Title. Shoot once I got tired on playing monster hunter on it there was nothing to play. SS was OK for 1 playthrough. I really hope nintendo does not disapoint this time around when it comes to getting good games on the system.

4K Resolution displays are releasing THIS year. Its just not reasonable imho because why would you get expensive 4K resolution telley if there is no content yet providing that resolution. BluRays are too small and transmitting a signal that big is tough work and would most likely need to be compressed, negating the tiny advance the higher resolution brings. Tiny advance because youre eye won't be able to distinguish Full HD vs 4K much...

Nintendo has given core franchises a rest before, I see no reason they would not again. In the current economy they don't have enough resources to focus on every single franchise to please fans. Whether you like it or not, the last few Metroid games saw a steady decrease in sales, and to Nintendo this means it is better to invest resources in other franchises, especially numerous Mario titles because they sell like hotcakes. Nintendo gave Starfox a rest because the last few titles decreased in sales, there's no reason they aren't making the same decision for Metroid. Heck, fans have been BEGGING for a new F-Zero (and don't argue that's not a core franchise, it's seen titles on every major console up to GameCube) but Nintendo chose to give it a rest because, once again, Nintendo did not see it profitable. Granted, Nintendo is not always predictable and could choose to release a Metroid title but there's just as much of a chance that they're letting the series take a small break and we won't see another Metroid game for at least a few years.

My concerns with the Wii U?

I hope they can keep being different. That's all. I hope they can keep the Wii U different enough from the next Microsoft and Sony machines to keep it viable, and I hope they can continue to offer experiences that you just can't get from the ever-expanding cell phone gaming genre. Microsoft and Sony seem to be locked in a battle for your living room, and are creeping closer and closer to just being a PC hooked up to your television screen in a more convenient fashion.

Nintenod's Wii consoles have gone a different route, and have offered play styles and controls that PCs are NOT currently doing. I think that was a brilliant and pivotal decision on Nintendo's part, and I do hope they don't suddenly veer away from that course. As long as they can stay different, offering different play experiences (even from 3rd party, multiplatform games) and different games (mostly their first-party stuff), I think they may yet survive to see a new dawn.

I too like Other M a lot. I don' t mind the short length or the linearity. The action is really intense and fun. I also like the plot used for the control scheme: The remote usage was really neat! The voice- acting was a little poor (Except for Adam and Anthony), but how does that affect it? About Wii U, the e shop may have been a little poor due to lacking of Virtual console and Wiiware games. The game informer has some reasonable complaints, but the Wii U is not bad.

I loved Other M but I realize that there are a lot of people who didn't and they have valid reasons. Still, I've never played a Metroid game for any story reasons, it's always been the gameplay and I felt Other M was the perfect way to take Metroid into 3D, as much as I loved the Prime series they never felt like the other Metroid games. Still, that's getting off topic. I agree that the eShop probably is one of the most disappointing features of the Wii U right now, simply because it's starting so slow, but it's not like the 3DS eShop evolved any faster. Hopefully it will pick up the pace before the "launch window" is over (by March).

I don't care whether this or that franchise gets an outing on Wii U, I just get the feeling that the current management at Nintendo isn't going to have the luxury of choosing to let this or that franchise rest. They'll be pulling out all the stops to survive the current economic uncertainty and shifting patterns in the gaming marketplace. I'm prepared to be proven wrong, but hopefully I'll have several years for that to be determined.

This. Exactly.

Times- they are a' changin'. Nintendo has to play their whole hand if they want to weather this storm.
