Topic: Wii U Christmas (Not quite there)

Bought my Wii U back in May in the form of the MK8 bundle, but wasn't until this Christmas just passed that I finally had time to really get to grips with it. Also had the added bonus of my cousins (age 13 and 16) coming round for a few days, with not much else at my parent's house to keep them distracted.

I bought a bunch of games in the sale, namely Rayman, Child of Light, Scram Kitty, Zombie U and MK8 DLC 1&2. Overall, it was pretty fun, and it's not like I've got through all that yet, but still felt a little lacking. I think in particular, MK8 started to wear a bit thin after so many races, and I wasn't willing to drop £50 on a game like SSB or Capt. Toad or Mario 3D World just because people were getting bored, versus because I really wanted it.

Maybe I'm slightly spoiled coming from PC gaming, where I can fire up whatever game I happen to be in the mood for. Whereas with Wii U, I have to be in the right mood for the games it happens to have?

I'm always in the mood if you know what I'm saying and I have no problem finding games I'm in the mood for between Wii U retail games, Virtual Console, and Indie games and then throw in the fact I have plenty of Wii games left to play and it's all good. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I have to agree, sometimes I don't feel like playing certain wii U games. I'm a bit of a completionist when it comes to mario kart 8. I raced until I got all CCs done except mirror mode. I have family to play with but sadly i get competitive with them and get tired of winning all the time which in turn sours my urge to play that game. Currently i'm on MH3U after my GF suggested i pick it up again. I was stuck on that game at first after 200+ hrs. Forgot I hadn't done and unlocked the G rank quests. So now I'm in the mood for some huntin. haha.

Uhm... I think people have to be in the right mood to do anything. Whether it's video games or laundry or eating a reuben sandwich.

As a PC/WiiU/3DS gamer I find that it's a bit of the reverse. The Wii U over the last year and the 3DS over the year before I'd get a game and then just play through it 'till completion. I'll get the disk or finish the download and then just start playing. Whenever I have the opportunity I'll push through another 10-30mins and I'll enjoy every second. Or in the case of something like Smash Bros or Mario Kart I'd play them during the periods when I "didn't have anything to play". The fact that I can play off-TV helps a lot with this, I only have two unfinished games on the Wii U and both of them were effectively free. The Wonderful 101 in the Mario Kart Promo and Bayonetta with the Bayonetta 2 bundle.

With my PC though I try to do the same thing but ultimately fail. My backlog runs along faster on my PC than my desire to clear it does. And it's not because I'm getting more PC games, it's more because unlike on the Wii U when I get a PC game it's usually not because it's something I must play through now. Usually it's more because it sounds decent and it was cheap. Then it'll just sit in my Library until it finds its way to the top of my queue. Particularly over the last year given the severe lack of great new games on anything that wasn't the Wii U.
