Does anybody have a sound bar on there gaming set up?? does the wii u plug directly into the sound bar via HDMI or is it not that easy. Do you need a splitter for them both to access 1 HDMI port??
Any thoughts, info or comments you have would be great thanks

I don't have a soundbar myself, but I think you'd normally pass the Wii U signal to the TV with HDMI, and then from the TV pass the sound signal to the sound device through HDMI. Please note that if the soundbar is only 2.1, you need to set stereo on the Wii U.

Depends on your soundbar so this is really more of a question to take to your soundbar's user manual. That said there are only about two different kinds of soundbars AFAIK. Some have various HDMI inputs and a single HDMI output. You plug in all your sources into the soundbar and it sends it to the TV. The other kind you plug everything into your TV as you normally would and then plug the audio output from your TV into the soundbar.

Read the manual, work out how your soundbar is supposed to work. Or just look at the ports on the back and it'll be painfully obvious anyways....

This isn't a sound bar per se, but I use this JBL OnBeat Venue in my setup, since my TV doesn't have AUX OUT.

What I do is I have these Componet Cables going from the Wii U to the speaker. I plug COMPONENT VIDEO (red, green, and blue) into the TV, and I plug COMPONENT AUDIO (red and white) into this COMPONENT AUDIO female to AUX male adapter. I then plug the AUX plug into the speaker.

This may not be of much help, but it should at least give an alternative method.

I have a sound bar utilised in my setup. Basically, the sound bar is connected to my TV via optical cable and then all sound going through the TV is routed to the sound bar. So my Wii U, Sky box, PC, blu ray all come through the sound bar via their usual connections.
Not sure if this helps, but that is how I do it. And OMG, Donkey Kong = Love when playing through the sound bar.

With my soundbar it is hard to work out what is going on (When it comes to bitstreaming and all that sort of stuff).

It uses HDMI ARC but it has loads of settings about what do with different types of Audio. The TV also has another similar DTS type module is also in the TV.

I wish I could test what happens with different audio tracks and see what process it was going through.
