For me its doesn't matter no one forced to buy it at launch so I dont feel cheated or anything. An ambassador program would be nice but I am not gong to beat down Nintendo's door for it.

As for Nintendo though these price drops are going to do more harm than good now. With their last two consoles getting price drops not even a year after release people are going to stop buying Nintendo systems now at launch. In the grand scheme of things I think this was a bad move for Nintendo.

You are right @Tasuki. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Have I enjoyed my Wii U the past year? Yes. Will I by another system at launch? Probably not until the first price drop and/or limited bundle with a game I am interested in. .

Yep I agree as much as I love Nintendo their next system I will hold off at least a year after launch. Not only due to the price cuts but look at the both the launch libraries for both the 3DS and Wii U.

The thing is the price drop is a smaller price drop after a longer period of time and it's not worldwide. So I don't see it happening.... which I don't have a problem with. Frankly I didn't have a problem with the 3DS price drop either and I only picked up my 3DS about a month before the price drop announcement. Back then it was just a cool little bonus and nothing more.

Oh and the "we got 30c VC games" point. That's also true but we did also get a bunch of freebies on the 3DS before the price drop. We got the 3D Pokedex app and the 3D Classics Excitebike both of which were cool little freebies. Them giving early adopters good deals on the eShop isn't a new thing.

honestly, I feel that the Zombi U bundle was already as good as the price cut. I got the Pro controller and I got both Zombi U (and art book) and Nintendo Land, and even a full survey for and promotion points for the Nintendo Land game (another $5 off). So I would still choose the Zombi U bundle over the Wii U price cut.

Did you enjoy playing your Wii U the past 10 months at all? If the answer is yes then I wouldn't say Nintendo screwed you.

I bought my Wii U less than 3 weeks ago in part b/c Iwata kept proclaiming no price drop this year. There never seemed to be any hemming or hawing or doubt, simply no price cut. I think NL had 3 articles about this. So like an idiot I believed Iwata b/c I figured he would know and wouldn't lie. So thats my sour grapes.

From Nintnedo's perspective, there was no price drop. I've been saying this since early 2013 that the Basic would go away (happened awhile ago in the US) and the Deluxe would become $299. So if you wanted to pay $299 for a Wii U you could have, if you wanted to pay $349 for a Wii U and a $60 game Nintendo Land well that was your choice. So now you can buy a $299 Wii U and get a free game. The price did NOT drop, only what was included in the already $299 price increased. If I'm Nintendo, that's how I spin it, b/c it's true. Had the Basic dropped to $249 then you have an issue, but it's gone.

I am kind of in the same boat, seeing as I didn't foresee a price drop or bigger bundles coming. I am not upset by any means, because I love the Wii U and I got the system for less than $300 using a Target discount that I get. I am just curious if I should register my Wii U soon, just in case they do give the "early adopters" something. I was going to save all my CN points (Wii U, Wii U games, 3DS games, a few Wii Games I just bought as well) for next years (July 1, 2014) platinum, since I already hit platinum for this year.

Well, the price drop is much smaller relative to original pricing (1/7 the Wii U's price off vs over 1/4 off for the 3DS) and it came later so maybe some eShop credit. Nothing exclusive by any means though.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Aww... Shot down. Well I do appreciate Nintendo's efforts, and hopefully we'll get a steady income of games soon. And who knows, maybe all the new adopters will persuade Nintendo to make new, maybe even free, games and deals for all owners to enjoy.

I'm confused at the outrage from some people who own a Wii U, but are upset that there's a price drop. Don't you want there to be a larger install base? Don't you want more reason for studios to develop games for a system you already own? You want to be the only person you know who owns one?

Weird logic.

It is just people trying to get free stuff.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

It is people wanting Nintendo to give them a reason to be okay with buying their systems at launch. Think of it as insurance for a poorly handled launch. Nintendo's delays with their products (Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101) basically made being a launch buyer pointless, unless if you really wanted to play Nintendo Land or a Lego game.

I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. You want a "reason to be okay with buying their systems at launch"? It sounds like maybe these "people" you speak of should have nothing to do with buying a launch console if they can't handle the prospect of uncertainty (a fact of life, by the way), or be bothered to do a bit of research into the release schedule.

You buy the console, you buy the console. It's as simple as that. I'm not one for large corporations, but even I have to say: they don't owe you a pat on the back for buying their console a bit earlier than others.

You also got mario u/zombi u/ luigi u/ mini verse/game and wario and a ton of promotions and sales from inde game developers. Stop crying about it unless you picked one up yesterday. Yes it is everybody trying to get free stuff. Stop acting so entitled. It's a 50 dollor drop. if you want the wii u to be anything but a dreamcast this needs to happen. I guess nintendo could have refused the delays and we could get crappy games. Would you prefer that? All launches suck. I've been watching them for 20 years.

It would be nice to get some free games, but I have gotten more than $50 worth of fun out of my Wii U.

@faint How am I acting entitled? I'm not saying Nintendo owes me, or any early Wii U adopter, anything. I'm saying that if they want to ensure that the userbase that bought the Wii U near launch will buy Nintendo's next machine, they should offer something to their most dedicated fans. Because those are the people that buy Nintendo systems at launch.

This is about Nintendo making a wise business decision for the distant future.

I agree. I bought a Wii U at launch and expected Rayman Legends, TW101, and others. We pretty much got assclogged with delays and canceled games..While I don't expect any sort of compensation, I will never buy a Nintendo console at launch again.

Rayman was a ubisoft skrew up. I never buy a console for three games. I picked up a wii u knowing I wanted several games on the line up. They did what they could to get a console out before the other guys and a few things got delayed but like I said all launches suck. Look at the Xbox or 360. look at the ps1 and ps3. the only consoles in my life time to have a solid launch of titles was the snes and the ps2. All launches suck. I'm sorry that you don't enjoy all the other things the wii u offers. It's a shame realy.

If you hadn't learnt anything from launches before the Wii U what makes you think the Wii U's launch is the last straw?

Because Nintendo said not even a month prior to the price drop announcement that the price wasn't the problem; the lack of games were?
Nintendo's statements on how they wouldn't cut the price like they did with the 3DS?
Nintendo's statements on the launch window lineup being what it was, when many of those games would be delayed, resulting in an insane drought period?
Reggie saying that Nintendo was absolutely prepared for HD gaming?

I'm not saying any of these are reasons to be angry at Nintendo. Heck, they aren't even lying, technically. Nintendo wasn't necessarily wrong in statement #1, #2 could be interpreted as Nintendo being honest because the Wii U price drop wasn't as drastic, thus not being "like" the 3DS, #3 is something that happens all the time in the industry, and #4 isn't necessarily wrong either; Nintendo did have games in HD, so it's not like they were unprepared, just not as much as they could have (I look at Miyamoto's statements on Nintendo's teams having trouble adapting to HD technology as the basis for #4).

There are, however, plenty of reasons for the Wii U to be the last straw. For a company that traditionally doesn't sell systems under a profit, it will be hard for many to take Nintendo seriously when they tell consumers "there won't be a price drop because we like to sell at a profit" when Nintendo seemed just fine to slash the price the last two times.

Which is why an ambassador program would fix all of that. It would set a precedent if it happened again. It would be an unwritten agreement between Nintendo and its most ardent fans that says "if our system underperforms and we have to cut the price, you, our most beloved fans, shall be rewarded." Instead of giving fans a reason to avoid the next launch, people would embrace it, regardless of its circumstances.

My two cents, anyway.
