Has anyone devised a way to transfer the Wii Points from the Wii to the Wii U (and also purchased downloaded software), but leave the save data on the Wii for some or all of the games?
I want to move the points particularly, but would prefer to leave the save data on the Wii. Is it possible to move everything and then transfer save data back?
Sorry to sound like such a noob, but it's actually my kids who play the Wii / Wii U and they want to leave the Skylanders data on the Wii, while I don't want to lose the Wii points balance.
My wii VC data got corrupt, but I don't think that's usual

I wanna be safe, so I'm gonna continue playing original Wii games on my Wii, and save the Wii U stuff on my Wii U

My one and only concern with doing this is the fact that I will no longer be able to play Smash Bros. with a GC controller on Brawl with all the characters. Since its a wifi title you can't copy the save data.... I'm going to desperately cling to playing Smash Bros. with a GC controller. It was perfect 7 years ago when I got the game and it's still perfect now!

Sorry to say this, but you cannot copy it back to the Wii.
For online games like Smash, the save data is transferred to the Wii U and cannot be copied back since the lock remains on the Wii U (Why? I have no clue)
Yeah I still have the good old Wii setup next to the U so I can play My VC and Gamecube stuff I can have both systems running and switch between them with the press of the input button. To me the transfer is only there if you want to sell your Wii or pack it up if shelf space is required.
Seeing how this thread is supposed to be for the OP problems last time I checked Skylanders was not a WiiShop download
Just transfer your stuff. I think it's worth it, and pretty much did it by instinct. For those still using GCN controllers for Smash, use the classic controller pro. I used GCN controllers religiously for that game before I transfered, but adapting to the classic controller pro for that game was easier than I thought it would be. Who else played the SNES/N64, and thought playing N64/GCN was weird at first?
NEWS FLASH: Super Smash Bros. U won't use GCN controllers!

I know the new Smash won't use the GC controller. I'd just like to be able to use it until Nintendo forces me to play with newer controllers on the new Smash. It's my last connection to a very large part of my childhood, so I'm just reluctant to let go of it. I'm sure I could adapt to the CC, but there's just so much nostalgia with the Gamecube controller that I don't want to let go XD

What about the future? It not a bad thing to look back to the past, but it's never good to stop looking forward by clinging to the past. I liked GCN most out of that generation, but once the next console comes out, that's usually my sign move on immediately, to keep updated, and for a clearer mind of what's to come. Does that make sense? It's one thing to be in the game, but it's another to be ahead of the game in other words. In this case, adapting to newer controls is being ahead of the game. It literally took me 1 Smash Bros. free for all match to get used to the classic controller pro on that game. Am I special? Haha...

Copy your files to a PC or another SD card before you do a system transfer
Thanks. This worked perfectly.
Just to clarify - copying the Wii's save data for Skylanders (a disc-based game, not a download) to SD card and then moving it back to the Wii after the Wii->Wii U transfer did preserve the saved games on the Wii.
Game save data can be backed up and put back onto the Wii though. That is the part I was answering mate
Even If you rebuy the games, it won't work as it detects that your license was removed from the wii
if you rebuy the game on the wii it would work... just because you hasve a license removed from the wii doesnt mean someone can't use that wii to rebuy the rights to access a game.. its just that you cant redownload the game without buying it again
