Hi all. First time posting so hoping you guys can shed a little light on something for me.
I got a wii u for xmas. Was planning on transferring all my wii data over then using the old wii in another room. The idea was to have it as a backup, for example, if i had been playing skyward sword on the wii u but then someone wanted to play pikmin 3 i figured id just be able to put the save data on a sd card take it and the disc in the other room & fire up the wii, basically picking up where id left off in the game.
However after looking at the transfer info & online im not getting tbe impression that this is possible.
Is this doable? If its not then i dont know whether to do the transfer at all, would i be able to sync the wii u to my nintendo account if the wii is still registered? & If i did the tranfer what use would the old wii be?
Any help would be appreciated!
You can still transfer save data that's normally able to be copied back to the old Wii afterwards with an SD card, like saves for Skyward Sword. Things like save data for Smash Bros Brawl and Virtual Console games can't be copied back after the transfer though.
Ur wii will be completely empty and the sd card is tied to ur wii u system, so ur wii will almost be pointless. And i believe u could link both to club nintendo.
Sorry, but the last two posts seem to conflict each other.
One suggests you can take the sd card out of the wii u & put it back in the wii & play the saves on there.
The other says you cant as its tied to the wii u.
Which is it?
What I did:
-Erased as many channels as I could on my Wii (just so the transfer wouldn't take forever)
-Copied as much save data as I could to my SD card (some games won't work)
-Did the system transfer from the Wii to the Wii U
-Downloaded all of my VC games on my Wii U
-Formatted my original Wii
-Copied the save data to my Wii
-Downloaded the VC games on my Wii
Now my Wii and Wii U pretty much have the same save data and VC games on them, in case I ever want to use both for whatever reason.
Cool.
Im not too bothered about the vc games. I only have a few & hadnt got very far in them so don't mind starting from the beginning again.
It was mostly the wii disc based games (like skyward sword, or mario galaxy) that i wanted to know about so i could continue from where i left off whichever console i was playing at the time.
Figured as much about games like Smash bros & mario kart cos of the online requirements.
I've done this before, so yes, with games like Skyward Sword, Mario Galaxy, Xenoblade Chronicles etc. you can move the save data on Wii U onto an SD card, pop that SD card in your Wii, and transfer it over (though you'll need to have loaded the game once beforehand).
