Topic: Wii remote chargers with Wii U?

As I'm getting a Wii U soon, I'd like to know if it supports 3rd party accessories made for the Wii, particularly charging stations. I've used a MadCatz charging station bought in Gamestop, which you plug in in the same port as the power supply, and the charging station gets its power directly from the Wii. I just want to be sure that there are no compatibility issues with these kinds of products on the Wii U.

If you have similar charging stations that are plugged in in the console, I'd like to hear if you've been able to use them on your Wii U's. And please, DO NOT reply with comments such as "don't use charging stations" or "use rechargeable batteries instead."

Your parlor tricks don't amuse me, boy!

As long as the chargers are USB-Powered, it is fine.

Making promise is easy. The hard part is keeping it.

If you did mean it plugs into the Wii's power socket and not the USB port then no.
(links to pictures of the unit would be handy because I wasted 10 minutes on the GS site and only found the COD-themed mains-powered inductive charge by Mad Catz)

This is because the Wii U's power socket is different to the Wii's.

If you meant USB then you should be ok.

If you meant - by poor choice of words - to charge the "Wii U Wii-motes" or use the mains-powered CoD doohickey, then I'll just have a nice cup of face-palm...

It only charges while the system is on. With the Wii you could still charge them while the system was in standby, which is effectively off.

I have already posted this in a similar thread but I think this is the ultimate Gamepad + dual Wiimote charge station great quality and reasonably cheap.

I got one of these on this advice... pretty happy with it thus far although I'm slightly annoyed that now I have white WiiMotes with black battery covers. I'm not going to even consider using it to charge my Skyward Sword gold remote.

But should be good, and TBH I was getting a bit annoyed with the rechargeable battery juggle....

I don't have one of these Energizer thingies but I got a dual Wiimote charger for $20 from Kmart so I have a black motion plus with a white battery cover... Perhaps we can start a cool trend or whatever with the kiddies

I would say get a good quality Energizer charging stand, or one of those matt things that they sell that charges your stuff by setting it on the matt. I'm not saying 'use rechargable batteries instead', but I use a 15 minute charger by Energizer that works perfect, and I've had it for years. It works with any AA/AAA rechargables, and recharges batteries I can use for other devices besides just Wii remotes. Please don't hate me, but getting special Wii remote rechargable stuff seems worse than the 15 minute one with regular rechargable batteries. I buy an 8 pack of rayovac for $8 sometimes($1 per battery), that have worked for years, and my other TV remote controls and such work with them, too. There may be some better alternqtives for Wii now for recharging batteries, but if you get one, don't get one that plugs into the USB port on your Wii U. It won't charge them while your systems off like DudeSean said...

I just looked it up real quick, and your best bet for getting the best Wii remote charge area, would be the Power A one available at Toys 'R Us. Power A usually makes officially licensed products for Nintendo, and even though this one isn't officially licensed, I would trust a regular manufacturer for stuff like this over anyone else. Hope you find a good recharging option, some matching colored battery packs(if that suits you), and a good deal!

@DudeSean Yeah, was pretty disappointed to see that when the Wii U powers off, the USB ports apparently power off as well (unlike the original Wii), so no way to use the USB ports to power Wii remotes with a 3rd party Wii charging station when the Wii U is off.. that sux!
