Ah, the typical, horrible statement that is ALWAYS encountered in these arguments. You do realize that it doesn't take the entire development cycle of a new game to port an old game in the form of a download... Right?

You also realize that the teams in charge of these types of services are also different from teams that work on new games, right? This is even the case with most remakes. People whined relentlessly at Nintendo for announcing two N64 remakes for the 3DS at once, because it "takes away developer time for new games for the system." Obviously, no one paid attention to the fact that neither Ocarina of Time 3D nor Star Fox 64 3D were developed by Nintendo. They gave both projects to smaller companies, like GREZZO (also responsible for Four Swords 25th Anniversary Edition, which some people complained about simply because it was a remake, as well.) All of those remakes turned out great, and for a while, were some of the few games on the 3DS worthy of playing. They accomplished the original goal to give 3DS owners something to do, and they did it with flying colors. And while it did cost Nintendo money, it's not like they didn't have the money to remake a few old games along with a plethora of brand new games.

And as I stated, Virtual Console games require almost no work. Money is often a point of interest in these discussions, primarily because of copyrights, but there's a reason games like Earthbound aren't available for the service. Nintendo isn't willing to overspend on the service. It doesn't take much work or money to keep it running, and it takes little more for the developers to put them up for sale.

I think I covered everything. Feel free to poke holes in my argument, I'd be glad to patch them up.

Can you please explain the supposed "legal issues" that keep Earthbound from being released on the Virtual Console? If it really is due to legal issues, then how/why did Nintendo release the game back on the SNES?

The issues apparently are things like music and trademarked items and the likenesses of real people and movie characters. I also don't understand why it's an issue now if it wasn't before. And i also wish they'd give me a new one already, why in the world would they not make a new one!

That's the thing. If it really is down to legal issues, then Nintendo wouldn't have been able to release the game at all unless they either licensed the "infringing" content, or edited the content out.

Yes, because gaming was a huge thing back then that Big Companies paid attention to. Really man, things have changed, and quite a few games got away with stuff back then that they can't get away with now. I know I'd love to have Earthbound, Breath of Fire III, and Tales of Eternia, but I can't, because they all failed the license checks.

Nintendo can't just cut out the infringing content? All it takes is a little ROM patch.

No win situation for Nintendo. Besides... then we'd have to hear you complain about how Nintendo changed the content of their game.

How is that a no win situation? Nintendo can either pay up and get the licences, or they can cut out the content with a patch. It's not that hard.

They managed to port Yoshi's Island to the GBA even though the Super FX chip is owned by a different company.

1) It's a no-win situation because people probably won't buy it once word gets out that they changed their nostalgia.
2) They ported Yoshi's Island by removing the Super FX feature, and guess what? People complained and consider it a far inferior version.

to be fair, whiny people on the internet (at least by itself) has never made a difference ever and Yoshi's Island on GBA still sold.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 better be happening! In the meanwhile though, here's a fun little Let's Play of the original. Think you'll like the game if you like Zelda!

Have you ever noticed that Japan hasn't had a Mother game, port or remake in several years too? I think it's a Japan decision not to release it anymore.
