So you didn't want to pay for the repair on your own device and that is Nintendo's fault? Things break overtime and you are no longer covered under the warranty. No matter how careful you are with a car, things will break in it. It is not the responsibility of the manufacture to fix it for free. The Best Buy thing is just bad luck. The return policy is normally printed on the receipt and by doing that they are "informing" you of their return policy. The fact that your Wii U couldn't play the game because your dGamePad is broken doesn't really matter. I guess you could try to return it as defective but they normally just replace the item, not refund it.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

To BB's credit nobody takes back an opened game. At best you might be able to sweet talk the manager into giving you full store credit (I've done that at gamestop if I felt enough pity for the person since it is against policy.) Also to Nintendo's credit its an out of warranty repair cost. Sucks sure, but its out of warranty...that is always full repair price.

So its not so much that they suck as companies in this case... unfortunately you just have bad luck.

Actually Gamestop is ironically generous at the same time. They allow you to return used games for full price within 7 days (subject to manager approval)

Actually that is just the normal policy. Because gamestop makes the majority of its profit on used sales they want a policy that keeps gamers coming back (plus not every store checks games and hardware, you would not believe the gunk ive cleaned off of controllers) however if you are a "renter" (which I am actually lol, however I'm a former employee so they let it slide) then the manager does have the right to switch your refund to store credit to discourage that. The best time to rent is during the holiday season however...because you can return a preowned game until the first week of January. You still have to have your receipt.

Not quite sure how I stumbled across this topic, but I noticed the OP mentioned Nintendo doesn't sell replacement gamepads. I'm not quite sure how it would work (sync, etc), but I know people are selling them on Ebay, and maybe other places.

The $100 repair might be the best option, as the pads seem to go for about $200. Good luck OP.
