The game is worth a lot more than that knowing its longevity.
The only problem that I have with the game is that it is far too short. You can beat the game in around 40 days which is around 10 hours of gameplay. The good thing is that it has good replay-value. You could play through the game around three times before deciding to play something else.

Yes, the game's length was my main complaint, along with the absence of Purple and White Pikmin in the main game, Red Pikmin being useless (curse you Grey Pikmin!) and the story being not so great. Pikmin 2 will remain king for me, cutting a lot of the BS from the first game, having a lot of length and generally having a lot of charm.
But still, it's a helluva lot a fun while it lasts, especially the boss fights!
But yeah, the game is barely two years old, being out of print is ridiculous.

The main value is in the missions. We've spent more than 150 hours in Pikmin 3, and the single-player campaign was just a fraction of that time.
It's been out of print for over 6 months at this point. People are buying it, but new copies aren't being produced. The demand exceeds the supply, so prices go up.

I could never get into the missions. I found the time limit too restrictive and stressful. I know the main campaign is timed too but you feel like you can do much more, besides not being limited to certain types or amount of Pikmin.
I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.
Try your local Walmart. Out of stock online, but at least around here there are 2 or 3 copies (new) in the actual stores. That's where I got mine about a month ago. And I still see them every time I go to any of the several in my area.
Just picked up a Wii U last week and Pikmin 3 was one of the games I was really looking forward to, but it seems to be retailing for around $70. Just seems like a bit much, anyway I can pick this up for cheaper?
Prices in Canada have gone up recently so most new games will cost $70 (although last I checked, all Wii U games were $65 at most while other console games were $70)
