Actually, most of the reasoning behind why Nintendo's servers don't work as well for most people, is because their internet router or connect is just crappy. I've been gaming over Wi-fi since Nintendo DS came out, which basically means that I know very well how picky Nintendo's servers are if your router is obsolete or the firmware is out of date.

You can blame it on Nintendo all you want, but the truth is that the end user has more to do with crappy internet then the ISP or servers ever do, and it's always because of the router.

If people actually updated the firmware on their routers, even Super Smash Bros. Brawl would have been a lot less laggy. The only reason why it works a bit better, as is, is because most people just hook up a new router after they switch ISPs or the ISP contacts the customer about router hardware(which is usually involved in renting one), which means they get one with the current firmware most of the time, anyway.

Updating your router is like updating iOS, Windows, Wii U, Xbox One, or whatever else. Your s*** is going to work like s*** if you don't update your s***. It's that simple.
