Topic: Why I Won't Buy a Wii U

As much as I want to want a Wii U, I will refrain until there are at least three games that I REALLY want to play that I CAN'T PLAY ON ANOTHER NINTENDO SYSTEM. Everyone's getting all excited about a possible Majora's Mask remake... How about a new Star Fox??? Or Mega Man??? Or, prepare for mental implosion A NEW FRANCHISE ALTOGETHER????

I'm only getting irritated with this because I love Nintendo so much. I want to stay loyal and updated, but when their really big releases are games I've already been playing on repeat for ten years, I don't know why I'd bother spending another couple hundred dollars when I've got Majora's Mask on my Wii. As well as Bomberman, Ocarina of Time, a great many Super Marios, et cetera?

I guess we'll see how the new Zelda pans out, because I wasn't impressed with Skyward Sword (which was the only reason I bought the Wii, to be perfectly honest. I'm not proud of that, but I love me some Zelda!) Anyone else just not impressed so far?

They already have X in development. And we got The Wonderful 101 just recently.

Did your mentality implode now?

I also said games that I actually want to play.

Impressed and having a great time? Yes. Blown away.... Not yet. I love Rayman, W101, Sonic and All Stars, Tekkin, Madden, Need for Speed- I know these are available on other systems, but still have really enjoyed these titles. I think the best is about to come out with 3dland, Mario Kart and Donkey Kong.

There is certainly no downside to waiting. Options only increase, prices only decrease.

That said, I bought my console at launch and have loved every moment with it.

Well, that's your problem.

They won't make games that cater to you specifically, obviously.

I really do hope so. DK Country Returns was a lot of fun on my Wii, especially on two player! I wish I was more impressed with W101, I'm just... not. Honestly, I'm not going to be getting the XBone or the PS4 either, at least for a while. Maybe it'll be an exciting year for Nintendo at E3?? crosses fingers

I didn't realize an all new franchise and "games I want to play" had to overlap. But seriously, there ARE new franchises (Wonderful 101 and X) coming

Thank you. I'm glad to hear that you like the console. Maybe I'll get one for my mom for Christmas and playtest it

Well, I got mine in April and haven't had much of a dull moment. But it does seem like things really started getting interesting in Aug. I'd say by next April, the system will be very, very compelling if you love nintendo titles.....

Funny how everyone always demands new IP, and then don't buy it when it comes out.

Nintendo's approach to new IP has remained the same though. First, they come up with a game concept. If that concept works well with an IP that already exists, they design it as a Mario game or a Zelda game or whatever. It's very rare that they come up with a concept that really demands new IP. They have IP for platformers (Mario, Donkey Kong), shooters (Star Fox, Metroid), racing (Mario Kart, F-Zero), adventure (Zelda, Pokemon), fantasy RPG (Fire Emblem), sci-fi RPG (Xeno), etc, etc. The only gaps they seem to have is in fighting games (outside of SSB) and horror games, both of which are usually fulfilled through the business relationship they have with Capcom (Street Fighter, Resident Evil). Could Nintendo develop new IP? Of course, but their existing IP is some of the most well-known and popular in the world. They need to maintain that to remain relevant.

But that aside, it's fair to wait on a console to have the games you want. Hopefully the right games for you come out soon.

As for me, no, I'm not quite satisfied yet either. Pretty much all of my favorite IP belongs to Nintendo, Namco, Atlus, or Capcom, only two of whom have released a must-have game for Wii U so far (and both are remakes - Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Wind Waker HD).

Magikarp3

I hang around NLife, I see what titles get released for WiiU and I'm not really at odds with myself for not owning one.

This might change when X is released though.

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

You're only delaying the inevitable.
Eventually there will be 3 games you want to play at some point. What you may not find are this season's special bundles. I'm not sure if the Zelda one is sold out already, but I'm sure it will be by Dec. 24th, same with Mario + Luigi. Then, there's the Wii Party U with free Wiimote, and so on and so forth. Knowing Nintendo, they will not have them forever.

And rightfully so, the decision is ultimately yours.

To each their own and everyone is entitled to their own decisions. The wii u is only young so there may be some games that "you really want to play" in time, then again maybe not. On the other hand you may buy the console and games "you really want to play" but then get the same result as you did with Skyward Sword.
As for new IPs I don't even want to go there. So many people moan about new IPs on Nintendo forums and when it happens, guess what? Same old, same old.

Wait a while as you intend and see what the PS4 and Xbone offers. You may be better off going there. There are loads of new IPs.

There is nothing wrong with you but I am grateful I don't think as you do.

I'm not going to buy a Wii U either. I already have one and I don't feel the need for another one. I think I'm good with the one Wii U.

So long as Ninty doesn't delay everything to death that's supposed to release next year, the Wii U will become almost impossible to resist in 2014.

X. DKCR: TF. MK 8. SM3DW. Yarn Yoshi. SSB. Maybe even SMT x FE?

Imagine what a great year Ninty could have with the Wii U once all this stuff releases. It'll make the software selections on its rivals look like a joke.

I learned a long time ago that it is a really bad idea to bet against Nintendo. They almost always come out ahead n the end.

I've been sayin' that for awhile now. People rush out and buy the console at launch, and admit the only reason they're buying the day one games is to have something to play on it. Major facepalm. I'm waiting on the Wii U until I see a must have game. I can play SSB on my 3DS, so that won't be getting me to pick up a Wii U. SMT x FE or X may though. We'll have to wait and see, lol.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Don't really get the point of this post. Wii U doesn't have games you want to play, so you didn't buy one? Um... congrats?

I own a Wii U, but hardly ever use it right now. However, I'm ok with the purchase because it was a great price when I bought in (getting a PS4 or XBone is way beyond my budget) and I know that there will be enough games on the system to make it worth owning - even if those games aren't available right now.

Frankly, things are already starting to look better. There are now a handful of games that I really want to play on Wii U - and while some of them aren't exclusives they also aren't available on any other console that I own.
