I think he's talking about gameplay. And yeah, you really shouldn't spring for a remake unless you can add content or make some kind of gameplay upgrade, especially now that VC is a thing.

OoT 3D didn't do any of that. That was almost entirely graphical!

That's probably why he considers it less of a remake. Graphical improvements aren't usually that exciting.

nuts

What about a Mario sunshine remake on the 3ds to continue the trend? AND DON'T LET GRIZZO DO IT. If Grizzo does it, it would just be a port like Legend of zelda ocrina of time/majoras mask/wind waker.

Theres ports and theres remakes.
Mario 64 ds was a great remake.

That's nonsense. Ocarina and Majora were completely remade. The art was completely new and most of the code was new, as the speedrunners who realised none of their old tricks worked anymore quickly found.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

I guess I agree with the majority on this thread that there's not really much need for a remake. Not only is Mario 64 available on the Wii U virtual console (sure, this didn't stop the Zeldas and Xenoblade), but it has also been available to play on the past 6 or 7 handheld models in the form of Mario 64 DS. It's by no means a long forgotten gem that people have been desperate to have on their systems again from what I can gather. Personally, I'd prefer that they focus on completely new games, or porting more console games that haven't yet had the handheld treatment to the 3DS.

I am repeating myself when I say that the remake Mario 64 DS is on the one hand over 10 years old and on the other hand not a very good replacement for the original. The control is very bad without the thumb stylus and the graphics are very blurry on the small screen. By the way, most people who owned that game played mostly the mini games.

Nintendo made just one HD remake so far and I guess that besides the N64-Zeldas there is no better choice than Mario 64 for the next HD remake.
