@Skywake yeah that's true it's a big old house so we had no choice I'd rather have the router in my room(it's in the middle of the house) so the signal would reach it whole. we wound needing a repeater!

Use Wifi, or buy the adapter. It's very simple.

EDIT: Also, like @skywake said, the distance could play a factor in either a wired, OR wireless situation.
