Seriously this system's exclusives blow the other home consoles this gen away...I have an Xbox One but I play my Wii U way more.

Ah yes, if only the amount of hate it gets was equal to the amount of third-party support. Would we still be complaining? Probably.
Complaining comes second only to gaming for Nintendo fans.

In all seriousness, I'm enjoying my Wii U.

Because of the lack of games during its first year of existence.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 just got announced for everything except Wii U..... that's why people hate it.... If you have it as your sole console you miss on all third party games, but if you don't have it you miss on some exclusives you want, the thing is too expensive to be worth it if you are only interested in one of 2 exclusives..... so people would rather Nintendo release a console able to get all third party multiplatforms or go third party or release a console that is much cheaper than the competition like the Wii was so it seems worth it as a secondary console...... but as it is is just this box that is not worth it unless you are a hardcore Nintendo fan that loves every Nintendo game..... for the people who say like Zelda or like Smash bros but don't care about other Nintendo games the existence of the Wii U sucks

The haters are either ignorant or jealous.

No 3rd party support.
The Gamepad.
Bad sales.
A disappointing successor to the WIi (financially).
etc.
etc.

It's a vicious circle, 3rd parties make lazy inferior ports of games, over price them on Ninty platforms and wonder why there are no sales?
What is EA's excuse for releasing exactly the same game as released 2 years prior (with different kit colours), palming it off as new, selling at full retail price, when over platforms get something new?
What is Ubisoft's excuse for delaying a Wii U exclusive?
Why is lack Console Sales a good enough excuse not to support Ninty, but ok to support Xbone?

These unanswered questions (with a satisfactory explaination) are the reason I don't buy a lot of 3rd Party games.

  • Gamepad, seen by many as more of a gimmick than a necessity
  • Lack of third party support
  • Hardware that is inferior to the PS4 and XB1
  • The Wii image, which was carried on by the Wii U's marketing (families / kids)
  • Percieved lack of mature / adult oriented games

The poor Wii U, despite some amazing games, it has been a bit of a perfect storm of bad PR. It's pretty much in vogue to release a game for everything but the Wii U.

Yeah, this, unfortunately. In my opinion, the Wii U is a great little machine that has just been a total disaster in marketing and PR.

I'm still into getting the thing but after Nintendo announced the new 3DS, I'm worked up right now as to how exactly I'll be getting these systems.........

Look I didn't care of what gamers said about Gamecube and I had a great time with it especially playing Thousand Year Door. If you love something, just forget what others say and just do your best to care for it. After all, this is Nintendo and like any company out there, Nintendo has its ups and downs( Even if Nintendo had its ups, people still complain about it. )

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

Microsoft and Sony fanboys brew up hate and since people who don't own it aren't any the wiser they believe it. I mean it took 6 months from launch for everyone to realize that the gamepad wasn't uncomfortable and heavy.

@PieEater163 You think they will someday realize that the WiiU library of games its actually bigger than the PS4s at this moment ?

Depending on one's defintion of "mature/ adult oriented", this is not really a perception problem, but simply a fact. If you consider the fact that most of the few, more or less "mature/ adult oriented" games on the WiiU actually are ports/multiplatform games, and combine that with the "Wii image" ... it's not surprising that the WiiU has not and will never reach the so-called core-gamer audience, in any meaningful numbers that is. Aside from ZombiU and Bayonetta 2, there is just very little to entice those crowds to flock to the WiiU, not with the PS4 and to a lesser degreee (so far) the X1 around. The fact that the WiiU is missing out on those big blockbosters like Destiny (which ist out next week) and that it will continue to do so, is just another major nail in it's mainstream coffin.
No Mario game/kart/party/tennis etc. is going to change the fact that people like to be blown away by graphics every new generation, it also can't change the fact, that if you want to have colourful jump'n'runs, the indie scene has long since caught up with Nintendo, not to mention the likes of Ratched & Clank etc are still around. Despite what many here seem to believe, people like diversity, but if you want to play a game like Ratched & Clank, as well as a game like Bloodbourne, and the next inevitable CoD (even if only for the Zombie mode ^^), you just stick with the PS4, it is just a safe bet.
The WiiU has failed to even get close to emulating the success of the Wii, even worse so than the 3DS in respect to the NDS, but I think Nintendo will get away with a black eye on this one. The 2015 line-up looks very solid, and I guess it'll really help them to reach their own core audience, unfortunately, I really don't see any hope for them to move beyond that. The PS4 has just way to much momentum and looking at what was just announced for TGS, there is no turning that around for the forseeable future. Nintendo needs to redefine it's place in the business. I think they will give the hardware business another shot, for better or worse.

I think a lot of hate for the WiiU is probably also due to it's somewhat backwards nature, in technology as well as features/services. I have a hard time myself trying to explain to a friend, why we need to use Skype (or something else like it) while playing Mariokart 8, or why they need to "follow-join" me one by one into a public game, why Nintendo seems inapt or unwilling to set up a proper cross-buy/play/save system ... it's just all very tedious by now and really basically impossible to excuse :-/ The lack of any proper sales culture and no gamesharing at all, plus the generally high price tag of Nintendo software, makes it also a less economically sound platform. The system is more expensive, but the fact of it is, that gaming on the PS4 is much cheaper, with a LOT more value attached. I can't really argue with anyone who is unwilling to put up with Nintendo's failure to comply with what has basically become industry standards ... I mean why should they? In fact I don't think they should, a very, very few exceptions aside, the only reason I can think of, I would suggest the WiiU to anyone myself (despite loving the device) is the exclusives. If someone is not into Mk, Zelda, Starfox or Splatoon, there is absolutey no point in chossing a WiiU over a PS4, PC or a X1 in my opinion.

i would say that's normal, considering it was launched one year before...

I'm not saying Aliens were responsible for the poor market reception of Wii U.....
......but it was Aliens.

Joking aside, I am guessing that Nintendo made some pretty bad judgement calls when trying to launch Wii U, 3rd parties got annoyed that they couldn't make money from PS2 ports like they did with the Wii and jumped ship on or straight after launch. The gaming media have basically not reported on Wii U to anyone except to tell them not to buy it or to tell them to buy it out of sympathy and Nintendo haven't advertised it anything like they did for the Wii or DS. Nobody would bother trashing the Wii U in every comment thread if the Wii hadn't won last gen, Nintendo fanboys didn't make so much fuss defending Nintendo and if the gaming media hadn't turned it into a laughing stock. I also think Sony and MS probably do a better job bribing retailers and the press. Nintendo do it too but only for Mario, Mario Kart and Zelda.

I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

A mix of factors, to me here we are (this is not my personal feelings, I am just guessing from what I read around):

1) Sense of been childish/casual oriented (inherited from Wii)
2) Sense of been always "the same stuff with mario and zelda" for the last 20 years
3) Extremely underpowered compared to PS4 and XB1
4) Bad Marketing and bad naming strategy
5) Lack of variety, it is essentially seen as a platform machine

Mario fatigue and a complete lack of major third party releases

Why? Simples.
Every product receives hate. The more ammo it has (see reasons above), the more hate it receives.
