There's a difference to dying in a level 20 times and then using a power up to help you, to not being challenged n the first place and steaming through a game. Strange a week after it was released, people are already saying they've seen the ending to Destiny. Is it too easy? And are they now wandering the internet bored because they have nothing to play?
But then the developers WANT you to get to the end of the game, as then you're likely to want to continue the story in a sequel.Other alternatives to difficulty problems are inifinte lives and continues, or really short distance autosaves, or variable difficulty levels. All of these are making games easier; perhaps too easy, but are better than a game that cost fifty quid that you can't progress to the end due to one bit you can't get past.
Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?
Maybe we should all just ignore these threads now?
Like seriously dude, stop. This is getting really annoying now, just make a gigantic "Everything Wrong with Nintendo" thread and be done with it.

I'm surprised that most FPS vets. don't just automatically play on hard or something. Shooters are the one genre I really feel really benefits from a challenge, so you'd think they'd set things up to be more fun for them. Normal isn't a cake walk in Destiny, but it's clearly made for those who don't play a bazillion FPS games.
this games aren't made only for hardcore retro gamers, Nintendo has always made games for the entire family, and sometimes those help power ups are needed, a lot of casual gamers stop playing games because they cannot complete certain level or get certain item, which leads to, in a very extreme case, stop buying those games and going to something easier.
As an example, my niece, she's 5 years old, and she loves Mario games, she decided to stop playing Mario 3d land since "some levels were too hard" and instead started playing different easier games...
sometimes it is required, but that doesn't mean you have to use them, just ignore it, (honestly there is no reason to start a huge rage topic just because you don't like certain feature, I get it, you paid for the game, but c'mon....)

"Screw the intended demographic, it's all about me and MY skill level!"
Though I will agree that an easy game can be massively underwhelming depending upon the game.
Also please stop responding to this thread and let it die, so more deserving threads can get attention.
But everybody means everybody. (And it should mean whatever the skill level of the player you should be able to get as much out of the game). That would be making a game for everybody.
“30fps Is Not a Good Artistic Decision, It's a Failure”
Freedom of the press is for those who happen to own one.
I just noticed the OP started a thread yesterday titled "Why are easy games so taboo?" in which he writes, "I like a good challenge as much as the next guy, but why is that people scoff at the occasional easy game? What's wrong with a game sometimes providing satisfying and addicting gameplay without feeling like a war of attrition? Can't video games just be a relaxing tool sometimes?"
And then he starts this one, lamenting Nintendo's inclusion of optional features in a game to make their games easier and more accessible to a wider audience.
Guys, do we need another PSA on not posting in threads you don't like? If you don't have anything to add to the conversation, just stay out out of the topic. You don't like the topic? Ignore it and move on instead of derailing the thread and making things worse for the people actually trying to be on-topic.
I know I'm actually enjoying the talk about the difficulty of Nintendo games and how it affects our enjoyment, but it's annoying me how that conversation is becoming a footnote in a series of "Guys, we shouldn't be posting here!!!" posts...
Also, @Gamingfan64, can we get a topic title change? Please? Just finish your thought, please. The current title is a very incomplete sentence...
...thread titles that are completely useless? Seriously, they're there to inform people about the thread, not to try and clickbait just so people can realise what you're talking about.
FWIW, these thread has also been started in the Wii U forum by the poster just these past weeks. The OP started with some topics related to the Wii U, but soon went to basically post the same off-topic questions over and over again.
Guy it just breaks the feel of going on an epic journey when I can just auto win at any point effortlessly.
"When you can do something by magic, where's the sense of accomplishment? It's far more gratifying to put in the time and effort to reap your reward."
This isn't a direct quote because it's been forever since I've read Eldest, but the point is, just because it CAN be done easily doesn't mean it should. You still get bragging rights for doing things the hard way, but people don't get unnecessarily pushed away by the game's inaccessibility. I think that's the real reason all of these games have an easy mode. It keeps some players from giving up and going home. The difficulty is still there. I still felt a great sense of accomplishment in completing certain games despite there being an easy option.
For instance, Super Mario 3D World makes note of whether or not you use the pity leaf. You get better bragging rights for not using it. However, you also don't GET the pity leaf in later levels. I think it's the last three worlds, but it may just be Champion's Road. Similarly, DKCR has a Hard Mode where I think the pity power up is missing, as well as a number of other effects to make the levels much more difficult.
To put it another way, in the upcoming Smash Bros, you could just play through the Classic mode on low difficulty or spam 1-stock VS. matches to get a good number of the characters. However, you can also go for the harder method of finding their unlock conditions, such as
Bowser Jr. being unlocked when you play through Classic on 7.0 difficulty or higher with Bowser. You have to actually beat the mode on 7.0 or higher. If you die and the difficuty drops below 7.0, you won't get Bowser Jr.
Why is this any worse than that? It just offers players multiple ways of playing a game, because you can't expect everyone to play the game the exact same way you do.

The same thing happens in A Link Between Worlds. You never have to worry about Link running out of bombs or arrows or ANY OTHER ITEM because the game refills these inventory necessities automatically. How convenient, right?
Yes, how convenient that I can only lay two bombs at any one time instead of spamming them willy nilly like I used to. How convenient that I can only fire 7 arrows before I have to run around the place like an idiot waiting for the bar to recharge. How convenient that all of these items use the same bar, which happens to be the same bar used by your new Flattening ability, which you need to use quite often.
Honestly, that feature is very balanced. Its only convenience is that now you don't have to be constantly grinding for items. I never felt much want for items in any game from A Link to the Past on, so if anything, this streamlining made the game more focused and allowed the designers to go all out with the bosses, which they did.
I find it more satisfying in that if I ran out of bombs or arrows, I would have to kill some enemies and replenish that way......... or backtrack to a cave and buy some. Just to have it replenish automatically seems cheap.
You is right, son!
