@whiteknight I understand where you are coming from about the lack of multitouch but (and please correct me if i'm wrong) a multitouch screen would be required to be some sort of glass. Considering i'm going to be giving the gamepad to my little cousin's when they come over so they can all puppet master in JD4, or do whatever else, I prefer the resistive because it wont break so easily. Multitouch would be better in terms of input, but I'd rather have single touch that wont break when I/somebody else drops it, than have to replace it when it falls 3 inches, gets a tiny crack and the display is shot. (and yes, this happened to my gorilla glass asus tablet, so I'm speaking from experience.) As for the resolution, ya there really isn't an excuse for that.

Oh, I understand why Nintendo went with the resistive touch screen, but as a guy who won't be giving the controller to kids to play with, on a personal level I don't like having an inferior experience at all. The simple reality is that the iPad screen might not be good for the kids, but it's the better quality screen.

It's the same with the resolution. Retina-quality screens would have too expensive to implement on this console. I get that Nintendo had no choice but to keep the tech primitive to make sure people would buy it, but as someone in the minority who have the money and would be prepared to pay for a retina-quality screen, it irks me that I'm making do with second best.

But I'm not criticising Nintendo for either decision with the Gamepad.

I have a feeling that a bit of the muddy visuals of the screen might have something to do with the compression. If they were to pump up the resolution of the screen it might be all for nothing anyway if it just ended with even more compression. Especially with fast moving content that has a very high level of detail which is pretty much the entirety of gaming.

No issues here so far with my gamepad but I am sure there have been some faulty ones like anything. Hopefully mine stays healthy and fit as I love it so much! :)

Okay there is one thing which my daughter commented on right away and that's that the colours aren't as vivid as the are on my TV - that's not a massive complaint, but it does take the shine off playing games in Nintendo Land which primarily use the Gamepad screen.

And point taken on machine reliability, but my issue isn't just the freezing, but the poor menu load times which are noticeably longer than the Wii (hopefully to be addressed in an upcoming patch if network-related) and the irritation of minimal storage for Wii mode - I mean emulate a 32GB SD card at least guys! None of this means I don't like the machine or that I think Nintendo "blew it" with the launch, but I expected to be less annoyed on day one. They did get a lot right - the social network integration is excellent as is the eShop, so I'm definitely glad I got it at launch rather than waiting a year like I did with the Wii. Best of all, my issues are fixable with software updates so hopefully everything will be addressed in my list in time, but I'm writing them just to be sure!

Yeah... loading times are a funny thing. My sons and I have been playing the PS3 since release and while some aspects -like MiiVerse transition that can be painful but that's because it relies on net connection to populate the plaza (you should try waiting for Home to start! ) overall it feels faster where it counts - game loading and (edit) in-game menu switching.

But yeah keep 'em coming mate.

I've only had two freezes (one a total lock-up needing the AC removed, the other I escaped with the console power button) but I really wasn't paying much attention to the previous sequences to determine any relationship.

TBH the loading times haven't bothered me as much as I thought they would. It takes a bit for the console to boot but once you click on a game on the menu it's fairly quick. Loading MiiVerse is slow but nothing horrendous and the eShop takes less time to load than both the 3DS eShop and the Wii Shop Channel. Not saying much I know but it does seem to be a lot quicker with some of the more important transitions.

Yeah, I'm fine with the load times. The console boot up is a bit annoying, but I think everything else is reasonable and at least acceptable.
My GamePad is fine, and I've only had one lockup and no freezes.
I have no problems with mine at all, but I can see where everyone is coming from. B-) Though as @Schprocket (best username!) said, there are cases where the users are simply exaggerating. (Main one that comes to mind is the "bricking" from removing your plug during update installs... That's not even a Wii U specific issue! :|)

I'd like to say that I recommend my my Backloggery, but I haven't updated it in a long time!

Hey I just started playing my wii u today and noticed this blotch on my screen too. I'm planning to take it back tomorrow as part of the one year warranty from hmv. Did you find the blotch disappears later on?
