@whiteknight I understand where you are coming from about the lack of multitouch but (and please correct me if i'm wrong) a multitouch screen would be required to be some sort of glass. Considering i'm going to be giving the gamepad to my little cousin's when they come over so they can all puppet master in JD4, or do whatever else, I prefer the resistive because it wont break so easily. Multitouch would be better in terms of input, but I'd rather have single touch that wont break when I/somebody else drops it, than have to replace it when it falls 3 inches, gets a tiny crack and the display is shot. (and yes, this happened to my gorilla glass asus tablet, so I'm speaking from experience.) As for the resolution, ya there really isn't an excuse for that.
Oh, I understand why Nintendo went with the resistive touch screen, but as a guy who won't be giving the controller to kids to play with, on a personal level I don't like having an inferior experience at all. The simple reality is that the iPad screen might not be good for the kids, but it's the better quality screen.
It's the same with the resolution. Retina-quality screens would have too expensive to implement on this console. I get that Nintendo had no choice but to keep the tech primitive to make sure people would buy it, but as someone in the minority who have the money and would be prepared to pay for a retina-quality screen, it irks me that I'm making do with second best.
But I'm not criticising Nintendo for either decision with the Gamepad.
