I don't really like sports video games. I prefer to play the real thing outside.
I hate when people say this. I respect if you don't like sports video games, but sports video games aren't supposed to simulate playing the real thing. You can't manage an entire football team in real life. You can't play as your favorite players in real life. That's what sports games are for, and I don't see why have to be viewed as an alternative to real sports.
Not only that, but people act as if you can just find a team of players and play a football/soccer/baseball game at any time
If you're like 15, sure. I remember back when I had nothing to do. But for most people with lives, organizing a pickup game of any sport with any decent amount of people is pretty difficult.
Why play a racing game when you could just rip up the streets in your Ferrari after school? Why play COD when instead you could call up 11 buddies and grab 12 paintball guns and meet in an abandoned military facility and shoot at each other?
I don't know when this whole 'I don't play sports games, I just go outside and play the actual sport' thing started, but its one of the most ridiculous trends I have seen on this website. I have literally never heard anyone ever say this before in real life, and this is the only website where I have seen this sentiment stated.
It's actually really common among Nintendo fans. And like I said, if you don't enjoy sports games, I'm totally cool with that, but don't say that they are stupid because you can just go outside and play the real game.
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
i'm happy with as few sports titles as possible since i don't care for them, but i am going for a complete PAL collection for the system, so would just be less titles i don't want to play in my collection but i actually enjoyed a few of the sport titles on the NES with friends, but those where much more basic and more fun then the new games that seems complicated for people like me that arent into sports
Got 45 NES, 22 SNES, 53 N64, 195 GC, 50 Wii and 12 Wii U PAL games

I have heard it said quite a few times in real life. (Funnily enough though the people who say that do still play Football Manager).

Growing up in the NES days I used to hear the opposite all the time from the cool kids....I don't really play video games, just sports games.
Hahaha it's funny to think back to how at one point the 'cool kids' would have bragged about only playing this game
Lucky that people with this 'why play sports games?' attitude didn't exist in the 70's, or else Pong would have been ignored by people content with throwing a rubber ball at a wall.
I wouldn't mind an arcade one like NFL Blitz. I really don't like how the newer Madden games became way to technical. I rather have a sports game that I can pick up and play and just have some fun. I also would love to see an arcade style baseball game come to the Wii U like how the SNES had the Ken Griffey games.
