I am saving money to buy one game for myself this holiday .
I am getting the MK8 Bundle from Walmart but I have a little extra left then I saw Super Mario 3D World.
Is it any good? It looks better than the Wii's games.

If you're into platformers, get 3D World - pretty much best Mario ever made.
If you like fighting games and are into online, get smash
If you're bored and have nothing to do with money, get Wii Fit U - or just give it to me, I'll make a good use for it. I promise.

Like everyone else has said, if you love Mario platformers, then get it...especially since 3D World (...and 3D Land, lol) is made by the same development team that made the Galaxy games.

Play Mario 3D World before you buy it. It's very different from Galaxy, Sunshine, or 64.

If I had to describe it, I'd say some levels are kind of like Sunshine's secret levels, but with better level design and far more obtuse mechanics and controls. Other levels have some more exploration, but again it's let down by mechanics completely at odds with 3D platforming.

If you are someone who enjoys racing through 2D Mario levels and you want to do that in 3D though, give it a shot.

I like 3D platformers, but I play a lot more methodically, intent on exploring everything, killing every enemy, and taking my time with jumps. So I really dislike 3D Worlf.

I just love this game it's my favourite Mario Game on the Wii U. I just completed it today but I'm already thinking of going back for another run with my Boyfriend. I would recommend it over "New Super Mario Bros U" but that's also fun.

Completed it all the way to Champion's Road (in the Crown World)? That's a level that I never finished, but I'll give 3D World a new playthrough this Christmas and try again. It's a fantastic game.

Me too. Champions Road relentlessly kicked my behind, and I eventually gave up.

@jariw & @Burning_Spear Yes I have completed the game including "Crown World" and "Champion's Road" (with all green stars and stamps collected). I found you need "Tanooki" and "Cat" Mario power ups in order to complete the level "Champion's Road". I'm not sure it can be without it in my opinion I doubt it.

I played the game by myself so I am not sure how online works is it wifi or local only? I would be happy to assist you if that's at all possible online. My Niece has asked to borrow the game for a while though but when I have it back I'm always happy to help at your convenience.

Kind Regards,

@Edie SM3DW doesn't have online multiplayer, only local multiplayer.

Mm apparently I am a fool and it is possible to do "Champion's Road" without power ups I will have to try before my Sister comes over to collect the game. 8-)

Oh what a shame thanks for letting me know Octane I guess I could have checked the box I just assumed most games did these days.

I'm in the process of getting any green stars I missed . I can't wait to see and triumph Champion's Road. I WILL DEFEAT IT!
To the OP: Feel free to sacrifice 3D World for another Wii U game such as MK8, but don't make that mistake of overlooking it; It's one of the Wii U's best!

Thanks for the offer of helping, but personally I want to fail/succeed in the games myself (that's where the fun is). As Octane said, 3D World is local only. I have seen playthroughs of that level, so I know how to do it. I just don't have the skills, and I practice too little. But I'll give that game (and level) a new try this Christmas.

You're quite skilled, Edie. You are probably a player for the really though Wii U challenges, such as pure platinum in Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 1+2, 200% completion in Tropical Freeze, all cats saved with the golden line in Scram Kitty, over 100,000 in Art of Balance endurance mode, 100% completion in Stealth Inc. 2, etc. Personally, I'll probably reach the Stealth Inc. 2 challenge, but I doubt I do it with the rest of them.

I really enjoyed 3D World. However, I find it hard to compare it to either 2D and 3D Mario games from the past. I think 3D World does a great job combining the two types of Mario games into one game. In 3D World you get the controls, levels, and graphics of past 3D Mario games but with timer and panic of the 2D games.

We've owned our copy for almost a year now, and we still play it weekly.

I personally think the Best Buy Black Friday bundle is better then Walmart's. You get Smash, 3D World, DKC:TF, and Nintendo Land for about the same price....then you could just buy a copy of Kart 8 and you have an instant library of some of the Wii U's best games.

Thank you very much Jariw I have had many hours with the game and you kind of get into a groove with a game after time. I think I also have the advantage of being new to gaming I have no "legacy" preferences of older controllers etc I am used to the U Gamepad. I do less well with the Wii Remote when not held horizontally but not bad.

I wish you well on your "3D World" journey sadly there is no messaging feature here but I would love to know how you get on.

Best Wishes,

Both games are must haves. You'll probably be able to pick up SM3DW at a decent price on boxing day, hell maybe even on black friday. It is a must have. Such a fantastic game. Id also say pick up NSMBU and the Luigi DLC. Had lots of fun with those as well.

3d world is cool but it's a pain in the rear sometimes.
