So while the PS4 and One are still around six months out we've seen alittle bit of what the OS ui is going to look like compared too The Wii U system UI.
So which one appeals to you most. I think the One's OS looks the best to me taking the best of Metro with simplicity I would imagine coming from xmb. I also appreciate the multiple hubs for so the Base home screen and navigation isn't as bad. I'm glad they decided to rework the smartglass app since its Native to the OS now. The first smartglass app is good but it pretty damn ugly if you ask me.
The Wii U OS is what I'd expect from Nintendo to bring their own flair despite people might asscue it of looking a bit fisher price. So far it has the best iconography of the three in my opinion. Anyone have a high res version of the Miiverse logo?
The PS4 is the oddest of the bunch since it doesn't have any real identity or focus. It has the side ways Navigation of the XMB for what looks like all software. But unlike XMB there seems be no folders or any way to separate catagories. Still out of the two new consoles this one seems the most like a mockup and non representive of the actual product its self.
I like the Wii U one best. It's just so colorful and bright. I dislike the One' the most, it's too dark and simple. The PS4's is just really.. Uh loose, kinda clutters IMO. It's nice though.
In order of preference I'd go with One, Wii U, and then PS4. Initially, I didn't like the Tablet-like nature of the One's UI, but with Smartglass or Kinect, I can see it working really well.
Wii U is nice, clean, and simple. No real bells and whistles to it, but it's not confusing and does what it needs to.
As for the PS4, it just seems a bit too clutterred to me.

I like the PS4 for the least for the reasons you said. I prefer the iconography of the WIi U UI, but like the overall lookof the One's more.
WiiU is (1st) Heh, What can i say it's bright, inviting and orderly.
Xbox 1 is close to being 1st. (2nd) It tells what some of the stuff is and has a bit of squares with different sizes. With Smart-glass i see....
And Ps4 is (3rd) It has Icons and it's bright (kinda) but some of the menu stuff looks a tad cluttered
I think they're all pretty equal. Xbox One and PS4's can do more at once from what we've seen so far, but Nintendo's does what it needs to for now.
If/when Nintendo decide to let the GamePad act more separately, they'll all be on par. That Xbox One demo of having splitscreen with different programs is what I think Nintendo will do with the GamePad in the future.
Have one GamePad dedicated to the game running on the TV, then another GamePad does whatever it wants, but is limited to off-TV.
Or, use a pro controller to play whatever on the TV, then use the GamePad for someone else to do something with off TV if you only have one GamePad. The Wii U has enough RAM to do these things.
Overall, I like Wii U's UI the best the way it's designed within the touchscreen. Xbox One and PS4's UI will be ok. It's just better to use a touch screen than a regular controller or kinect to do simple stuff, IMO.
So overall, I'd say they're all equal, but I prefer the Wii U method.

I love the WiiU interface most. However Xbone has a nice look to it as well. But to me the biggest detractor for Xbone and PS4 UI will be how many ads end up filling space. I cannot stand that sort of thing.
I loved the old Blade interface from when Xbox 360 was first launched. I think each of the Xbox UIs has gotten progressively worse the further away they've gotten from Blade (and yes, after like 6 years or whatever I am still mad that my old wallpapers became worthless after the Blade was replaced lol)
The Wii and now Wii U are the most logical to me and while I think content sorting could be better, at least I'm given the option of arranging each "channel" at my leisure so I know how to find the things I want. I don't really want to dismiss the PS4 and Xbone firmwares without getting to use them myself but at first glance they both seem to be what I hate about the 360's current firmware.
Where's the KABOOM?! There was supposed to be an earth-shattering KABOOM! sigh delays...delays...
Somehow the Wii U's interface manages to have a nice "homey" and "easy" feel to it. It might not be as cool or sleek looking as the Xbox One, which is really nice, but I like the Wii U's more. The PS4 doesn't really stand out from the others, it's nice, just doesn't do it for me.
Wii U- Oh god Nintendo could've done so much better with the UI. It was cool for the first couple tries now it's just bad. The whole Wara Wara plaza thing is REALLY REALLY stupid. Well at least it serves its purpose..........
Xbox One- It looks like Windows 8. Im kinda sick of Window's whole new Metro thing. The Windows Phones were one thing, and then Windows 8 was another thing, but now they're involving Xbox One? Gah.
PS4- Out of all 3 main consoles, this one is definately the best. It's sleek and nice and is a major improvement over the PS3. I'm not saying its the greatest thing in the world (because it's not) but this one is my favourite out of all 3 consoles.

I actually think the Wii U version is terrible for those very reasons. Plus it's cluttered and difficult to keep track of. And what's the point of having everything so spaced out? And those Miis in the backround are too distracting!
The PS4 one is the best, it's so clean, and organized, and dark, but not too dark like the Xbox one (though I imagine you can put themes to brighten things up there). Only thing I didn't like was that having the picture in the backround is somewhat distracting, but not nearly as much as having a bunch of Miis in the backround. I'm totally just using th iPad "Tablet controller" when I get the Wii U, at least it makes everything organized.

You can switch between the gamepad menu and the wii menu. One is not restricted to the platform. You can have the regular buttons on the tv and the plaza on the gamepad (which is actually very convenient because then you click on them etc). It's pretty much perfect.
Surprisingly enough, I'm really disliking the PS4 interface. It's a shame, as I especially like the PS3 UI...
As for my favorites, I'm gonna go with the Xbone. It's surprising as well, considering that the Xbox 360's UI is clustered.

They're all horrible. If I had to pick a favorite and a least favorite, my favorable choice would be Wii U and least would undoubtedly go to PS4's merry-go-round.
Of course, in a few years these UIs will change dramatically via update(s) and my opinion will differ (except I could see Nintendo never altering the Wii U's interface).
