Mario Kart 8 is the best MK game ever. MK DD, DS and 7 are great too but they can't reach the fun I've had with 8. You know, it's cool to hate the new, I guess, but apart from the Battle Mode, MK 8 is pretty much perfect.
The only one I haven't played is Double Dash. So my list would be:
1. Super Mario Kart: For what it is it's fantastic. The AI is broken but I can look past that.
2. Mario Kart 7: The pinnacle of 3D Mario Karts so far. Great online, great tracks
3. Mario Kart Wii: Because the online was pretty solid but the tracks weren't that great
4. Mario Kart DS: Was great for local multi but online was broken. Four races per match with the same people?
5. Mario Kart 64: The only thing it had going for it was 3D and 4 players. Every Mario Kart since has done better.
6. Mario Kart Super Circuit: All it had going for it was that it was portable. It's like a watered down Super Mario Kart.
Most memorable moment:
After what I can only assume was months of playing almost nothing else when I was a kid I got to Rainbow Road in 100CC on Super Mario Kart. I was within reach of Gold and I got there. It was probably the most intense gaming moment I have ever had. The gold was awarded, the credits started to roll, 150CC unlocked. Before I had a chance to have a go at 150CC the power went out
But Mario Kart 8 is the new best Mario Kart, at least for now.

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"
My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."
Right now my favorite is Mario Kart 8. I love the customization for karts, the amount of characters and what characters they have, yeah some of my favorites like King Boo and Dry Bones didn't make the count this time around but I love that they added the Kooplings. I enjoy most of the tracks (excluding DLC which I do enjoy) Mount Wario being my favorite. The controls are a big step up from Mario Kart Wii and of course I love online. I might not be the best MK racer but I find online so relaxing.
Some of my other favorites are
Mario Kart Wii: Yeah the controls felt a bit different than other Mario Kart games but I loved the huge roster and some of the new tracks Coconut Mall being my favorite. Its also was my first console Mario Kart game since MK64 (I never played Double Dash) so it was nice to come back to a series I loved. It also was the first Mario Kart game that I introduced to my son and we had some great times playing it.
Mario Kart 64: I love this one for pure nostalgia reasons. So many races and battles I had with friends in my early adult years. This and GoldenEye made owning an N64 worth it for me.
Mario Kart Super Circuit: What can I say about this one for me at the time if felt like a portable version of Super Mario Kart but better. I loved how they brought back the SNES tracks This was probably my most played GBA game before it stolen from me.
Mario Kart 7: I enjoy this one pretty much for the same reason I like 8 the customization being a big part also the fact that its portable. It also brought back the familiar controls of the MK series for me after MK Wii and it also brought back one of my favorite tracks of all time the SNES Mario Circuit 2.
I have never played DS or Double Dash so I can't give an opinion on those also I recently played Super Mario Kart on the SNES on the VC but I have to honestly say as good and as fun as it was when it first came out it has aged poorly.

I love MK8 and DD. Since I am a time trial junkie I'd love to see Baby Park as DLC. I'm probably alone in that but it is my favorite course of all time.
As rushed as 7 clearly is, it has the best balance out of Mario Kart games, out of those I've played. With the others there's some combo that's always best, and although 7 has Metal/B-Dasher/Red Monster/Parafoil, it doesn't dominate as badly as something like Bowser/Mach Bike or 8's heavies. The fact lightweights have a better accel advantage than heavyweights have a speed advantage is what makes it so good, plus their better handling lets them take considerably sharper turns, so a well-played lightweight is hardly behind a well-played heavyweight.
Why does this matter anyway? It makes it more fun to try out new character/kart combos. In 8, you get stomped on if you aren't using atleast a medium-weight. The combos you can use are much more samey, and you'll see the same ones constantly.
Again, not saying Metal-B-Red-Para isn't common for no reason, but I use Lakitu and I've beaten dozens of people using the Metal combo (not just people that're clearly bad at the game, but some pretty good ones as well). I've seen plenty of other great lightweight players too and some outstanding middleweight users, winning in matches where they were racing against Metals. There isn't any combo/character I've seen as constantly as I see heavyweights in 8 and I've seen all kinds of characters in all kinds of kart combos win. Even if Metal-B-Red-Para is best, I'm not as sick of seeing it as I was heavies in 8. I've used various Metal combos and they don't make me feel like I'm using my Lakitu combo for nothing, because I can notice the advantages of my Lakitu combo much more.
But in terms of single player 7 is awful and it'll age badly, though right now it's my favourite, purely because I think the online is most fun. It's a shame 8's balance is so awful (the slowest super-heavyweight combo is still faster than a max-speed lightweight and has better accel, WTF!?).
In terms of single-player, I like DS most, but I don't play Mario Kart for single-player at all!
Mario Kart 8 is the most fun to play in my opinion, the tracks are wonderful, and controllers just perfect. But Mario Kart 64 holds a great nostalgic value to me; my, how much fun I had when I was younger, competing against my family and friends in that game. Not to mention I placed pretty decent (no. 40 out of 120 competitors in all) in a MK64 time trial contest I took part in. I was one of the youngest players of the bunch, and one of the few girls as well. My, how proud I felt afterwards!
