The reason this is happening is because third party games don't sell well on Nintendo consoles. Arkham City: Armored Edition sold a mere 0.22 million copies compared to the PS3 version selling sold almost 5 million.
The PS3 has sold 80 million compared to 6 million Wii Us (Wikipedia), which means that 3.666% of Wii U owners purchased it, compared to 6.25 PS3 owners purchasing it.
My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

exactly, the console base and the WiiU periodical software draughts would allow 3rd party numbers to reach decent sales, but they don't... because the majority of Nintendo users don't give a love...
the first 3d party in the chart is ZombiU with 700k world sales at 10th position, the next one is Rayman legend with 350k at 15th....
both great games (and both at the top notch in gamepad usage....)... together they didn't sell a quarter of NSMBU... the most more of the same of the more of the same ever.... hey, but "It's me, Mario!"

Except there are other factors here. Most fans of the series already had a copy of the game and had no reason to purchase the Wii U version.
This is the same reason I don't take EA's reaction to Mass Effect 3's sales seriously
People complain about the lack of third-party games, yet when a third-party games DOES get announced for the Wii U, all you hear is "I won't buy it, I bought a Wii U to play Nintendo games."
on my 24 retail game collection for WiiU, 18 are 3rd parties... and none of them are shovelware like the Wii ones...
I guess I did my job, obviously I am an exception among the 7 milion...

tell you the truth, put it in this way it's not a bad result, considering that when people purchased Batman on PS3 it was the cool new game everybody had to have, while when it was released on WiiU it was just another worthless old port.
This might prove that if the install base expands and they start releasing cool new games everybody has to have instead of old ports, they might even get 8 or 9 percent of owners purchasing their games. Granted, it's peanuts on a 6 million users, but if the console starts selling 30-40 million units, it's a big profit.
And there's only one way to expand the install base quickly and cheaply: PIRACY.
it worked for PS1, it worked for DS...it must work on WiiU too!!
Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

PIRACY is the cryptonite of Nintendo... they will sell their mother before allowing something like that....
They don't even provide Wii or WiiU with a dvd player.... cmon be realistic, will never happen
Why is everyone is so desperate to be spoonfed the exact same crap as the other consoles get? If you're rich enough to actually buy all the games that Nintendo consoles miss then you're rich enough to own a capable PC and/or Sony/MS console. It's sad when Nintendo misses certain games but this has been a trend for nearly 20 years.
I do get the frustration from having to use Sony and MS's inferior controllers but that's when a PC comes into its own because it will support a range of Nintendo controllers if you know what you're doing.
Crying and port begging is pointless, just buy games from developers you like and promote them for the system you like. We actually have a chance to get back at Ubisoft and EA by buying games from other publishers instead.
I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

WHen u say other publishers you mean Nintendo, right?
This will never be fixed on the Wii U and most likely not on any future console. The last few generations have basically solidified Nintendo consoles as secondary systems you buy only to play Nintendo games on. I'd say it started with their decision to use cartridges for the Nintendo 64. Even if the 3rd parties came back, most Wii U owners would probably buy those games on a different system and I can't really blame them.
The only way I can see Nintendo winning 3rd parties back would be to go against what they, and probably most of us, believe in. That is, they'd have to stop trying to be different and instead make a "me too" console that's powerful enough to convince the "I only play CoD/AC/GTA/etc on the fastest console" gamers that a Nintendo console is the one to have.
With a gaming PC and a Wii U, I find I'm pretty much set for this generation.

I'm not afraid to admit that I buy Nintendo systems to play Nintendo games. I have no shame
My brother bought the Wii U just so that he can play Fifa 13 on the Gamepad. Dude is extremely sad because Fifa 14 and 15 is skipping the U. The only games he owns are Fifa 13 and Monster Hunter 3U. You'll be surprised how many people will the Wii U attract if they had proper 3rd party support. No joke.
I can play all those games on my PS3 or 360. If Wii U is the only console you own than hopefully you were not terribly interested in those games or else you made a huge blunder when you bought.
The main thing I see is that there is still no reason that I see to go for Xbone or PS4. Basically everything comes out cross platform right now. It will take multiple sytem selling exclusives to convince me to upgrade my PS3.360
Honestly, zombiu sold 700k. An exclusive 3rd party launch title on a Nintendo console. I can't be the only one that thinks that's a pretty decent number
