There are always 2 sane choices for buying any console:
When a game comes out that you really must play. I bought mine a week after Pikmin 3 when Target was offering a $50 GC.
When the price drops. I bought my PS2 when it hit $199 and my Gamecube when it hit $99. This way you know you are saving money and you don't have to worry about just missing an upcoming price cut. The Wii U price cut was announced weeks after I bought my Wii U.
Right now though I would wait for Nintneod to announce the SSB release date and if there will be a bundle and/or price drop. Last August 2013 Nintneod announced the $50 price drop AND the Zelda bundle. Bayonetta 2 and Captain Toad also need dates, as due the amiibo toys, so there will be a Nintnedo Direct by early September the latest. .

This guy speaks of the truth. Right now the Wii U has Mario Kart 8, Pikmin 3, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Super Mario 3D World and Nintendo Land. These titles alone warrants a worthy purchase, not to mention much more awesome games are coming out this September.
Just get it my friend, you will not regret it.
