Disclaimer, I'm a Nintendo fan since I possess the ability to have permanent memory and I LOVE my Wii U. So what I'm going to write here is going to be slightly biased. But this discussion is open and everyone should share their opinion. My post will be somewhat long winded so bear with me.

It was back is early 2013 when I saw the Wii U for the first time, to be more precise, it is the first time I know that the Wii U even existed. I saw the Wii U kiosk at Bestbuy and I was immediately stunned. After asking around, I finally get to know that a successor to the Wii has been launched. I played with the demo Wii U for a whole half an hour, and I was completely in love.

You see, I was a fan on Nintendo but I was completely disgusted by the Wii. It's like Nintendo don't care about the core audience anymore and the system is ridiculous. I know there are good games on the system, but I just can't get myself to like it. After being forced to skip the N64 and Gamecube, the Wii left a bad taste in my mouth for Nintendo home consoles. Now with the Wii U, Nintendo is giving us back the traditional controls, a second screen touch screen and the best of all, HD graphics. However I was still skeptical so after I went back home, I did my research found out the Wii U is the real deal. There are 3rd party games like AC3, ME3, Zombi U etc and I feel in love with the Wii U even more.

On May 2013, there was a clearance sale at my local shop and the basic Wii U was on sale for $190. Combine it with the fact that it has been close to 20 years since I last owned a Nintendo home console and my love for the system, I snapped. Now I already have the Wii U for more than a year now, and I still love it but disappointed at the same time.

When I first got the Wii U, I was very surprised by the amount of technology that was jam packed in that console. I could be wrong, but the Wii U is the only console that I know of that comes with a NFC reader, a wireless big touch screen, gyro sensor, Infrared Sensor and the ability to have 3 different control schemes (Gamepad, Wii U Pro, Wii mote). After trying Nintendo Land and Wii fit U, I was very convinced that this console is going to be the best console ever and the games will be revolutionary. So far, I was wrong.

Yes Nintendo did come out with extraordinary games like Pikmin 3, SM3DW, Wonder 101 etc, but those games did not fully utilize the Wii U’s potential. I know I might sound a bit crazy now, but think about if Nintendo collaborated with Bandai. Imagine Bandai putting out their famous franchises (Gundam, Naruto, One piece, Macross etc.) for the NFC? What about a new line of Tamagochi that utilizes the infrared sensor on the Wii U to transfer your pet in and out? Or even a new Digimon World game that works with the Tamagochi via the infrared sensor? That is one of the many things Nintendo could’ve done with the Wii U! Although it does seems like Nintendo is finally realizing this, and their answer is the amiibo. I am genuinely excited for amiibo and I can’t wait to see how it turns out and how it will be implemented in games! But until then, I will be withholding my comment.

My final gripe is the lack of 3rd party support. When I first got the Wii U, I thought I am getting the whole “package”. But the reality is every third party devs skipping the Wii U! Why isn’t Nintendo doing anything about it? Imagine if you can play all the Nintendo first party games and will also be able to play Far cry 4, COD, Battlefield and Destiny on it. It would be the perfect console! With all these big tittles skipping the Wii U, it makes us Wii U owners feel like 3rd class citizens. What happened to the promise that the Wii U is going to work with the third party devs? Until now, the third party support on the Wii U is nothing but disappointment. Gimped ports, lack of DLC/support, games skipping you name it. Until this day I am still playing COD Ghost regularly in the hopes that we will get the extinction DLC.

Despite all the setbacks, I still love the Wii U. The gamepad is simply outstanding and the variety of games is huge. Not to mention the first party games are just magical. My wife and I have spent countless hours in Mario Kart 8, SM3DW and Pikmin 3. There is nothing else in the world that is as fun and charming as a Nintendo game (My wife refuse to play anything but Nintendo). My favorite Wii U feature is the Off-Tv play. It is very convenient! When someone wants to use the TV, I can just switch my screen and I can continue playing. Not to mention playing a full on next gen game in my bed is just awesome.

I honestly believe Nintendo will be able to bring us quality contents and keep us all entertained throughout this generation. But I am greedy and I want more! The potential of the Wii U is endless, but will Nintendo fully utilizes it? I guess we will have to wait and see. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and I am having tones on fun on it!

I saw the Pikmin 3 announcement, per-ordered it, stood in the cold, brought it home, then waited about a year until the one game I bought the console for was released. That's my story.

Outside of RPG's, I love what the WiiU offers. I don't like dudebro games, and in fact hardly any of the multi platform stuff, so I am not affected. My 3DS generally keeps me in RPG heaven. I love the Gamepad especially for off TV play. Some of the regular game functions that utilize it are cool also. I am sure I will eventually get a PS4, but it will likely be years down the road, since I got my PS3 last April (2013), and still have only played Ni No Kuni and the Tales of Graces games (Xillia, F), for more than a couple hours. My biggest gripe is not having GC games on the VC and just plain more games period. I understand they don't want to release it all at once, but they are waaaaay to slow on the releases. Digging the indie scene on the eshop, and some great games coming in the next 2 years. I really disliked the Wii, so I am glad more traditional games have come back on the newest console, yes I know the Wii hade some traditional games too, and the WiiU has some waggle games.

All in all, I am impressed by it, because I only bought it because Nintendo consoles always come out on my birthday (USA), and I happened to hit a jackpot the night before. I bought almost every launch title including e-shop. I had very low expectations, and was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved the system. The Wii had made me give up on consoles, since MS and Sony don't do it for me. I still play my many 3DS's more (80-20), but I enjoy what time I play on the big, or small, screen.

Gotta catch them... eh, nevermind.

Its a really nice console. Its just incredibly underrated. It also hurts that we miss out on various 3rd party games. It has its flaws but its also a really nice console.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

Christmas present for...myself. It's had it's ups and downs, since Child of Light I've been good at playing the console a lot.

I can see the pros and cons of the console pretty well, but while it's disappointed me, I've not really regretted my purchase and at the very least it's given me a chance to check out indie gaming on a larger degree. It does a decent job at keeping my attention with Miiverse. And Nintendo's own games on it are impressively high quality, arguably more consistently than usual even.

The problems with it and its support is sad, but as a 360 owner, it's also still pretty irrelevant until next year. But despite its obvious improvements from Wii, this past E3 makes me worried that no one big wants to support it when so many people could take advantage of it if anyone other than Nintendo (and Sega) knew how to market to Nintendo fans. It'll still do fine and it's a solid Nintendo and indie box but I hope stuff like Hyrule Warriors and Devil's Third is less a fluke and more a sign of things to come (and hopefully stuff that I can be more certain about buying too)

The system is amazing for me i love it i always will.I bought for zelda and the other exclusives it's going to have.It sucks there is no third party support, but i would rather have great ports then washed down ones.

Nintendo was off of my radar for many years, honestly. I was firmly rooted in my Sony fandom, having abandoned Nintendo around the same time that Squaresoft did. Ocarina of Time was actually one of the last Nintendo games I bought until late 2012 when I started hearing news of the Wii U. My kid brother had a Gamecube and I did play some games on there, but I ignored the Wii entirely.

The first I ever heard of the Wii U was E3 2012, though not by watching their conference directly. I read about it on Cracked (warning: language). It's a highly negative article (and in retrospect, uninformed), but it actually convinced me to start looking into the Wii U.

At the very least, looking into info for the Wii U actually got me into sites like NintendoLife here and finding out about all these fantastic Nintendo games I had missed in Gen VI and VII. I bought a used Wii and a couple dozen Gamecube and Wii games and let my PS3 collect dust for a few months. It may have even been for the best that I got back into Nintendo that way. it allowed me to experience a decade worth of fantastic games without having to wade through all the crap and sit around and wait for the good games to come out. I was totally unaffected by the post-2011 drought on the Wii as well.

By holiday season 2012, I was sold. I bought 2 Wii Us, one for myself and one for the aforementioned kid brother for Christmas. This is my first time since the N64 that I'm experiencing Nintendo game releases in real time, and it's been up and down. The fantastic quality of games is still there. Nintendo EAD are still among the best developers in the world. I don't regret my purchase, only that I didn't wait until the Wind Waker HD bundle.

I am fully aware of the cons of the Wii U. The cons aren't really getting me down though, as I still have my PS3, Vita, and 3DS to enjoy content on. I'm not even particularly interested in most Western AAA games, so the lack of support from companies like EA and Activision doesn't even really phase me. Being used to the infrastructure of Sony's online ecosystem though, the Wii U and 3DS eShop is a considerable downgrade. Man alive, it's archaic. The only pluses they have over Sony is the ability to use cheap, standard storage devices.

What I want from the Wii U in the future:

  • NNID being moved to the cloud, not tied to hardware
  • Continued strong support from Japanese 3rd parties like SEGA, Capcom, Koei Tecmo, and Namco
  • Pricing and quality of online store closer to competitors, maybe a subscription service like PS+ as well
  • Official peripherals like a charging dock for controllers, cord management is a serious issue with Nintendo systems

Lastly,

Before I heard of the WiiU, I was pretty close to getting a PS3 out of sheer boredom. I had a Wii, but barely played anything. Instead, I bemoaned the fact that an XBox360 was in my possession, with quite a few games I wanted to play online - but I hated the mere thought of giving Microsoft 8 bucks for freaking online while knowing that barely anyone plays these games on 360 to begin with. So instead, I looked for good console stuff. To cut that one short, I got a 3DS before the price drop and barely avoided a loan trap.

Some time passed, and I had Xenoblade as justification to keep my Wii. And then I first read an article about the WiiU. Now, I was really on bad terms with Nintendo, since they didn't make a single Wii game I liked themselves (Metroid Prime Trilogy was Retro Studios), so I didn't think really well of it. But around December 2012, a good friend bought himself a WiiU and invited me and a load of others over to play NintendoLand together. And the entire time, I thought "Better than I thought, but nothing to play alone", so it still wasn't on my radar.

Some more time passed, and it became apparent that the WiiU had enormous problems on the market. By then, I was playing Monster Hunter on 3DS non-stop. And when I was over to my friend again, he downloaded the Relay Program so I could play online (I was always hunting solo up to that point). That was pretty cool, but I was stumped that you had to get a WiiU just to play MH3U online on 3DS. But then it happened...

I was looking through some game announcements when I saw a giant, red "X" on black background. I thought "wait, this looks familiar" and clicked on the video below... and I knew, I had to own a WiiU before that wonder of a game comes out!
And when the Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD Bundle came out, I was in the store right at opening point to save one for myself. I was really mad when I realized that there was only a download code included, and I sold it to get enough money for a WiiU game.

Now, I can't deny that I was hoping for a slightly livelier release schedule, but I always considered multiplatform releases to be annoying, anyway, since people wouldn't stop arguing which platform had the best version, Still, there were a few games where I thought "This would've been perfect for WiiU!".But, ever since Super Mario 3D World and the second X trailer, I knew I wouldn't regret this purchase. And E3 gave me this satisfying "I knew it will become better" feeling.

The WiiU has become my favourite home console after SNES (which won't change until VC releases of PLOK, Super Mario Allstars, and Lufia), and I've decided it to be my last console purchase. The direction of gaming isn't my thing anymore, and before I turn into a cynical wreck, I'll just turn my back on it. The WiiU is the last console worthy of being called such, but I fear that Nintendo's next console will have too many of the things I hate about PS4/XBone and the mentality of their audiences.

My story is I stood in a queue for six hours on launch night to get my Wii U with two free games as at that point I found the Wii to be becoming more and more boring due to Nintendo lack of support in its final years.

Yes, this is a concern of mine as well, especially if investors do force out Iwata. He's made some bad decisions, but at least he's been fiercely fighting to stay true to the core values of Nintendo.

The PS4 marks a turn in Sony's marketing and focus. It's nothing like the PS3 at all. I'm not enthused, and I hope it's not terribly influential.

I am a gamer since I have memories (my first games were floppy disks based on a 386 when I was 7 or 8 years old... I almost learnt how to hack config.sys and autoexec.bat before writing properly...) and the first console I used to play was the glorious NES at my cousin's home. Since then I owned a Matra 3600 (atari 2600 clone), an atari lynx and a sega master system.
Then, for many years, I quitted console gaming for pc games only.... It was just recently in 2010 that I finally went back to console, buying a Wii mainly for its local multi casual games (my hardcore side was still relying on pc), Mario Galaxy and a bunch of other games were the ones who made me fell in love again with Nintendo. So, I was there for the 3ds (upgraded to 3ds xl recently) too.... and here we come to January 2013, when I finally decided to get rid of the Wii and getting the brand new WiiU. What covinced me was the hope of having finally in my hands a Nintendo console which allows me to satisfy the multiple aspects of my gaming interests, mergin casual party games to be play with friends and girlfriend with Nintendo exclusives and, last but not least, 3rd party "hardcore games" (COD, AC)... For me, was really essential, cos I hate to have to jump between 2 or 3 consoles in order to play what I really want....

My hopes has been partially unattended, as you can guess. As for many of you, I was very piss by the lack of 3rd parties in recent time. However, I had and still have a blast both with Ninty games (SM3DW, Zelda WW, W101, Pikmin 3) and with 3rd party (Mass Effect 3, Deus Ex, Fifa 13, Rayman, ZombiU, ACIV, COD Black ops and Ghosts, Darksiders, Tekken Tag 2, Sonic, Last World) plus very good Indi-games... so, my back log keeps growing despite the lack of GTA & co., I play my console every time I can, my girlfriend who lives with me love it too... so, at the very end, never regret the buy, it is an amazing (and heavily underrated) console, I can't really complain.... of course, would be good to have the consideration of 3rd parties, but even how it is now, I think is just great.

I first heard about the Wii U when it was "Project Cafe", I first saw the Wii U when everyone else did, their E3 2011 presentation. Non-specific Action figure convinced me that the Wii U was worth it and I played through Rayman Origins wishing that I could have played if off-TV. I pre-ordered the Wii U after the September 2012 Nintendo Direct and I didn't get a chance to use it until launch day. Day 1, unboxed the thing, set it up, waited for updates, played lots of Nintendo Land.

My story is that I got the Zombi U bundle, which is the best deal ever, and Zombi U blew my mind, and so did Arkham City: AE and Mass Effect 3: SE.
With Nintendo, I had tremendous fun with NSMBU, 3D World and DKC:TF. Now playing some Mario Kart 8.
The eshop I'm very happy with, with early games like Bit Trip Runner 2 (although not as good as the originals), Little Inferno, and later games like Ducktales, Scram kitty and Shovel Knight.
I was in the Nintendo World Shop when they first announced the launch date of the Wii U and that Bayonetta 2 is going to be an exclusive

I got it because of the MK8 promo. (And the fact that the digital for life version of NSMBU is still pretty expensive).

I think any price drop will be about the same cost as the digital version of NSMBU so I might as well.

I have Lost World and Mario Kart 8 on disk but I am going to get rid of them as soon as I can with as little effort as possible.

(It was always a certainty I was going to get it only question was when).

It could end up being my most played and my favourite console of all time. Its faults actually don't bother me that much but I know there are many. I got it on day one, easily got my money's worth of fun during its weaker early months and it does things I have never done on other consoles. With the full VC it would be my favourite because I would be busy for years before I even need new games. Off TV play is amazing to me because I share a TV with my housemates who don't want to watch me playing Zelda but will happily play MK8 on the gamepad while I watch Game of Thrones. It's amazing how poor the perception of it is. Most haters haven't touched one, most reviewers copy each other and form identical 'opinions' about games that I often don't believe they even played and most of the stuff from Sony and MS really doesn't impress me. I owned all 3 last gen but I think Wii U / PC will do me fine until GTAVI.
