You make a point here, a real good point but it still doesn't add up on why the hell do these companies think its Ok to release a game that only came out last year, see a game worth remaking is Oblivion. Not a lot of people this time around have a chance to play it . You go ask someone "Hey have you ever played Oblivion before?" Direct answer. "What the hell is Oblivion?" See my point here is they should make games that are really old hell Nintendo should do a remake of Metroid 2 or Kid Icarus 1. Or better yet Minish Cap not a lot of people know that game.

Oblivion may* warrant a remaster because it is unavailable to people who don't own a PS360. Super Mario Galaxy doesn't have this problem. If you have a Wii U, you can play it.

And remaking a 8/16-bit game in HD is pretty worthless. It's essentially making a new game entirely, with all the time, money, and resources that goes with that. Square Enix won't even remake Final Fantasy VII, one of their best selling games ever, because of this.

Giving them a facelift like Metroid: Zero Mission on GBA is cool, but what the heck are you even going to do with all that display resolution in HD? If Metroid 1-4 were all remade as WiiWare or whatever in the style of Fusion/Zero Mission, I would totally buy that! Would be great to have on my U. Retail price HD remakes? Lolno.

*I say may because if you want to play Oblivion, you should just be buying it on Steam anyway. It's 20 bucks and you can mod it to your heart's content.

Console Bethesda games, yuck.

I already have Oblivion the whole collection on 360.

Again let me explain myself I never owned a N64 or Xbox or PS2 Or Xbox 360 So I haven't gotten a chance to play those old games like Half-life 2 & those games like Halo Remastered edition are worth buying because those games are really old. So yes make games that are 5 or 10 years old but not games that are less then a year old.

Sony claims that nearly 50% of PS4 owners didn't have a PS3. That's the target market for these remasters.
Even if the games are less than a year old, they're are still a lot of people who haven't played them because they didn't own a 7th-gen console.

That's because I'm just guessing here, not a lot of people had a Playstation 3 mostly they had Xbox 360 or a Wii like me that didn't have money to buy one & what Sony says is what they think. Not a lot of people owned a PS3 because of many reasons.

New games cost a ridiculous amount of time and money to make, and take a lot of time too.

I don't care either way, but what I don't like is remake begging, like with Majora's Mask 3D.

So release the same games (literally) over and over again within a couple of years? Didn't this NOT work for Capcom?

I said I'm pretty neutral though. I can see them in moderation, but the levels some companies (Capcom included) have taken them to is ridiculous.

But see with Capcom they release games like RE 1 that is 10 years old. See that's a game remaking cause not a lot of young Gamers had the chance to play those old games. Like we did. So Kudos to Capcom for doing it, I'm still mad that Capcom missed out on Wii U though ...

RE1 is 18 years old. I still hope for some HD Collection or whatever of Onimusha.

With some games upgrade is good, like with The Last of Us - no framerate dips, all DLCs, it's like GOTY, only upgraded.

As for Oblivion I don't know if you will find someone saying "what the hell is Oblivion" unless he doesn't care about video games at all... or lived under the rock. The most would say "Oh, that one with almighty horse armor? Yeah, know it". I agree with @8BitSamurai, Morrowind should be remade - I won't talk about graphics much (to me they were atrocious even when it came out - such empty, dull looking world), but I would love dual wield and some other things that they implemented in Skyrim.

Remakes are good when they are justified or give something new or enhanced. GTA5 is not mindblowing to me, though.

I get your point here and as for GTA 5 the reason why they had to port it over too "next-gen" is because of people complaining.

GTA 5 is coming to current-gen consoles because it sold 34 million copies last gen. Pretty straight forward.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

Yeah & mostly people were complaining, since there doing that then they should redo GTA 4.

Am I the only one here who thinks they should actually remake bad games?

That, to me, would be the point of remaking a game, because it wasn't already made right in the first place.

that would be a great idea, take the worst games out there and remake them so the "bitter memories" can be put aside

Remakes of rare games are a great thing, since some classic stuff is hard to come by nowadays (see Paper Mario 2 for a good example), but many remakes are coming out way too quick by now. Especially PS4 tries to maximize profits with almost-instant remakes of PS3 games, which I find somewhat unnecessary since that only worsen that "PS4 has no games" callout many people go for. Instead of bug-fixed reskins, they should actually get proper remakes (new content, refined gameplay). But that also only applies for blockbuster games, not for games which have a strong following (Dark Souls would be an example), or generally games that aren't from 2013-2014 (God of War, DMC, Rachet & Clank, Heavy Rain). So, in that sense, the PS4 is also becoming dull already with many games that have strong presentation and gameplay, but barely any replayability.

They won't remake FFVII because they believe if they do so then it will show that they have utterly failed since and that will the end of the franchise.

See I don't know about remakes being rare but, damn you win on this one and finally someone actually makes a good point. Remakes aren't so rare this days and that's what's sad about it & as for "next-gen" if that's how its going to be remakes that only came out less then a year ago . Then what's the point of spending almost $1,000 on a new consoles (Console cost $399, Game cost $60, Another Controller Cost $49.99, Warranty cost depending on what you get cost $20 to $40) if they keep making games like these. I can understand if they did games that were on the first few games of the generation (7), and 6 generation PS1 Or Gamecube. Those types of games are worth repaying $50 to $60. So talk to me when they do more games that are from the early days.

You could argue Arkham City was a remake of an Xbox 360/PS3 game for the Wii U. I still enjoyed it immensely and it was about 25% of my reason to get a Wii U, knowing Nintendo would deliver 1st party gold- which it did.

I think what doesn't help is not just that there are remakes and definitive editions of last gen games for the XBS4, but the fact so much has been delayed as well. If I said there were 20 games coming to system A by the end of the year, and 3 of those were remakes, you wouldn't really notice them. If I then delay 12 of those games that are 'Current Gen exclusive', you notice that 3 out of 8 of those games are not next gen at all. Plus Games like COD, AC, FIFA and Madden may not be remakes, but they tend to run on the same engine with the same conventions, year in year out.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

Tomb Raider is anything but definitive.

A pretty modest PC can run it at 60fps all the time with tessellation and ssaa which makes it look loads better. TressFX makes barely any difference but drastically increases the hardware requirements.
