Topic: What`s up with the messaging system?

While I don`t actually own a Wii U as of yet. I heard that when somebody messages you on the Wii U you don`t get a pop-up on screen like PS3/360/Steam and my question is, why? Instead you apparently only get a blue "ring" around the Wii U`s home button. Why would a console in 2012 not have that basic function of notify you meaningfully that you received a message? I don`t see how Nintendo plans to capture the "hardcore market" if theyc an`t even get basic online functions right.

To each their own I suppose but may I ask why?I would find the blue ring rather easy to miss and I wouldn`t even realize that I got the message.I would prefer the pop-up with an option to at least turn it off for people who don`t want it to disturb them.

I hate that about my 360, it's too distracting and sometimes pops up at inconvenient times. The blue ring is enough of a notification, if I'm wanting to respond to messages I'll notice but if I'm immersed in a game it doesn't pull me away from it. As soon as you press the home button the Miiverse icon glows if you have new messages or notifications. More than enough for me.

I'm assuming you haven't demoed the Wii U yet, or held/used the Wii U GamePad - trust me, it's not difficult to miss. It's very easy to notice. Even if you're not using the GamePad while playing a game, it's still likely to be in front if you somewhere, and it's very easy to see when the HOME button glows blue.

You do know you can turn notifications off on the xbox right,

But yeah its easier to miss a led light compared to a on screen prompt.

Well I guess I`ll take your word for it and maybe Nintendo will patch it in along with that Spring firmware update.

Then I get no notification at all. The blue light notifies me without anything popping up on screen.

I haven't used the messaging yet but if it has the same notification method as notifying for Miiverse, then I didn't notice the home button glowing, I guess. It's very noticeable when on the home/pause thing though.

The Blue LED was annoying, so I took it off. However the on screen notifications on the Xbox/PS3 are also a bit distracting.

What about the blinking green light on the controller.

So that's what the blinking blue light means...

Why do people point to their wrists when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?
